Hi both

Just about to attempt this exact same job!

Was innocently replacing my injector seals due to an oil leak down the nearside & rear of the engine, of course soon learnt it would be the injectors (new to land rovers but always wanted one so found this very tidy puma locally) the injectors were tested & 2 replaced approx 2 or 3 years ago but leaking again or always were after re install at the previous owners indie garage he used.

Anyway - I have a injector cleaning bung like in your picture in my cyl 4.... it's back breaking enough reaching over to anything that far back while stood on a stool at the nearside wing.

Just ordered a sealey 4mm flexi magnet as per recommended on the post Smile thanks & the spring compressor also!

Just a few questions;
1) can this engine be turned clockwise AND counterclockwise by hand or clockwise only?
2) does the valve freely drop into the cyl easily or do I have to move it from the top?
3) does the piston move it back up high enough to easily refit the collets?
4) are the collets on these a traditional 2 piece taper type?
5) did you bother replacing the rocker carrier frame bolts or not? Is there a tightening sequence to avoid busting it?

Any of you in Gloucestershire and fancy lending some moral support? I won't get over the sinking feeling I had in my gut the moment I realised what had happened!

I have removed the inlet manifold but not fully due to all the gubbins & junk around it will this suffice?

Cheers in advance:)
Joe

One more question, do you have to put the engine into specific position to remove the rocker carrier or can it be removed wherever crank/cams are ?

Shocked Done!

This was the list I made myself before commencing under my newly purchased (and then returned) Argos gazebo

Remove rocker carrier
Piston cyl4 (and 1?) Tdc ish !!clockwise!!
Cover engine in clean Rags
Rag area not being worked on
Bonnet upto windscreen & strap up
Protective goggles when using compressor
Spring compressor fit & compress spring
Double check piston is raised / tdc again
remove collet place in magnet tray
Lift off spring & compressor place aside
Cable tie collet groove stem section of valve
Gently lower valve onto piston
Attemp to retrieve bung item with magnets

Once successful piston to tdc or near to
Place spring & compressor over valve
Place a Cable tie at very top of valve
Refit collet
Remove spring compressor
Ensure happy with injector seat cleanliness
Lower in copper washers for injectors
Put paper towel in holes again
Oil up All cams & valves with oilcan
Refit rocker cradle Screw bolts in hand tight
Check all rockers are seated / aligned ok
Torque up evenly all to 10nm + 30 degrees
Double check rockers still all sit happy

Remove Rags from injector holes
Hoover with nylon hose to suck dirt out
Refit rocker cover with new seals in for injectors + seal around perimeter of cover
Clean intake ports on head with wipes
Refit intake manifold & various plugs near
Check & clean diesel hard pipes
Check pics for arrangement of pipes / looms
Loom bracket & map sensor bolt up
Install injectors checking nos 1 to 4
Fit all pipework loosely
Clamp down injector clamps 7nm + 180deg
Refit top cover
Check all pipe fittings are tight
Check glow plug wiring looks happy

Done / check all tools away

She runs a treat much to my relief as you can imagine

Crazy happy seeing that bl33dy item come out on the end of the magnet

Next stop is a frame ball joint & check / replace mt82 output shaft but I have a very reasonably priced local specialist that's happy to tackle the shaft
