[For Sale] Defender 110 Dormobile, galv chassis, 2.8TGV
Finally I’ve decided that my Defender Dormobile needs to go – I’ve had many wonderful experiences in it across Morocco, France, Italy, Spain and Portugal as well as in the UK, but I’m moving on to a motorhome now.

It is very much not a standard 110 - it is a 1995 Defender 110 on a galvanised chassis. The drivetrain is a 2.8 TGV, with an R380 gearbox and an Ashcroft 1.3:1 transfer box. The rear axle is a Salisbury but fitted with a Detroit locker, so traction in all conditions.

For those who don’t know the 2.8 TGV is made by International Engines and is based on the 300 Tdi but with a larger capacity and a variable vane turbo. In standard tune (which this is) it has 135 bhp and 375Nm of torque – more power than any standard Defender diesel, but within the capacity of the drivetrain. It has a heavy duty clutch and a domex steel clutch fork.

It has air conditioning and cruise control, perfect for the longer journeys in the Mediterranean, as well as an Eberspacher diesel night heater for those colder nights. It also has a 270 degree free standing Ostrich wing awning in case its either very sunny (or very wet!). There are 2 inch receivers front and rear with Anderson connectors to allow a demountable winch to be fitted.

I originally bought it with twin Dormatic seats and twin bunks, so seating and sleeping for 4 people – I still have these and they will be included in the sale (see the last 3 photos), so it can be returned to this specification in a few hours. However, in its current configuration it has the bunks in but a full size standard double mattress “downstairs”. This is 6 inch memory foam and is the most comfortable sleeping set-up I’ve seen in a Defender camper. The current front seats are heated (but not yet wired in) from a late “Puma” Defender.

The storage consists of 7 built in drawers and cupboards in the rear along with a compressor fridge, plus space for boxes / bags. There is a twin burner gas stove on the rear door, which is fed from a chassis mounted 20l gas tank. As well as the gas tank there is a chassis mounted 57l water tank as well as a long range in wing fuel tank adding another 40 litres or so – it can genuinely do over 600 miles.

The rear passenger doors have been replaced with steel “Puma” doors and the whole car was resprayed when they were fitted. There are 6 wheels / tyres all on Wolf style wheels with the two spares being unused. The rear wheel carrier also has a mount for the hi-lift jack.

There are curtains for all of the windows as well as internal insulated covers for the colder nights.

As a complete vehicle this is (to my mind) a perfect set-up for overlanding for two people, but could be changed back to a four person vehicle in only a few hours work switching the seats over.

It is difficult to value a vehicle like this but it would cost lot more to convert a vehicle to this level than I am asking, which is £31,000.

I'm running Puma Station Wagon springs, so variable rate rears, with Koni shock absorbers. When I got it it had helper springs and was rock solid with no flex at all. Now the ride is nice and compliant but still stable as it has front and rear anti-roll bars.

Wheels are Wolf (copies I think rather than genuine). Tyres are 235/85 16 Goodyear MTR's - the two spares are unused.
