Which diesel do you use?
Does anyone here bother with either superior(BP) or v power diesel (shell) or any other of the “premium” options??
Ive only had owned performance cars so have always gone for the premium fuel.
Ive been doing the same with my D300?
Does anyone even bother?

I miss my TDI that I could top up the tank in the summer months with vegetable oil……..

Only the rich can afford that fancy stuff of which you speak Whistle

I think most of us use the regular diesel and an additive chaser every few fill ups..

Use standard diesel and add millers diesel power ecomax every time you fill up. One 500ml bottle caters for 500L of fuel and it has its own measured dispensing capability.
Increases cetane rating so increases power while also keeping injectors clean

Many of use use it in our Puma defenders. https://www.millersoils.co.uk/products/diesel-power-ecomax/

I use anything from anywhere and have done so in all my cars without any issues. With the exception of my XC90, all my cars have done over 120,000 + miles, my 2005 D3 had done 231,000 when I sold it and is still going strong.

This whole 'I won't use super market fuel' mantra is just daft.

My D250 has done nearly 20,000 in a year using fuel from everywhere and anywhere in the UK and Europe. I drive my cars hard and it flies when I need it to.

I'd just use whatever fuel comes to hand and not worry. Thumbs Up Eiger Grey MY23 D250 SE with bits. Known as Noddy.

Yep it's all made to the same specification. They are playing on your emotions selling you "premium" products. The freshest diesel is probably the diesel that sells the most e.i. standard supermarket stuff.

Always used premium. Granted a small sample size, but haven’t had any engine related issues on any car I’ve owned in the last 10 years.

I have also used veg oil in a push!!

Wholeheartedly agree, absolutely nothing wrong with supermarket fuel, in fact, their turnover ensures it’s always fresh. As for the additives some use, just a big marketing con……but it’s your money.

Always run my LR’s on supermarket diesel except on motorway hauls to London when I fill up at the Shell place just down the road from the Premier Inn in Lancaster and on the way north I fill up at the Esso place at Gaydon. The only diesel car I never put supermarket diesel in was the 2007 3.6 TDv8 RRS I ran - it didn’t run well on supermarket diesel yet the 2010 3.6 TDv8 FFRR I had didn’t mind it.
Except for one fill up at Harrogate Sainsbury forecourt last May my D250 seems to be very happy on the diesel from Stirling Sainsbury as that is so far the only place I have filled it apart from that once in Harrogate! Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

On the subject of 'supermarket' fuel, its seems to be mostly ASDA and Morrisons that have a nasty habit of mixing the wrong fuels in their underground tanks.

So i never use those.

Our local Shell & BP stations are about 8p/L more expensive than the Co-op just around the corner, so I mostly buy whatever is cheapest. Neither this Defender nor my DS seem to mind. The only LR I regularly used Premium diesel in was my FL2 which always seemed a bit fussy. Current vehicle: 2020 Defender 110S

Given that these vehicles were tested and developed in Kenya, I have always assumed they could cope with the odd refuel from Asda in Leyton..

I think i've used it once.

I usually just run bog standard Diesel from BP or Shell

I once pulled up to a pump with only premium and almost cried on the walk in to pay.

I haven't used additive before - are there downsides?

I normally just use Costco, they only sell premium diesel and it is normally about 8-10p cheaper than 'normal' diesel at the local garages, used it for years and have never had a problem. I was over in Cumbria the other week and needed diesel so pulled into a Shell filling station, there was a great long queue but the pump at the front was vacant so I pulled around and filled up, just as I was going to pay I realised why nobody was queueing for that particular pump as it was Shell V power diesel or something and it was eye wateringly expensive compared to what I am used to at Costco, it was 35p per litre more! Big Cry Cheers Ian
