I go over mine every couple of years or sometimes more...
Just wire-brush any areas that have corrosion, use FERTAN, then Dinitrol... Been fine! I guess it depends how far gone your chassis is, and what previous coatings are on there. It's just as improtant to get inside the box sections IMO as that's where muck can fester unseen... Clean inside as best you can, get Fertan in there, and some good cavity wax (i use Dinitrol) Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |

Some photos and the age and state of the truck would help. Understanding what is on there and the condition of the chassis would help us understand what you are likely to encounter when you start.
Are you planning on stripping the chassis right back to steel, treating it then applying protection? I have a 1993 90 with the original chassis and preparing any sections for repair that gas had any bitumen based coating on has not been pleasant. You need to scrape as much off as you can before going anywhere near it with a grinder with a wire wheel as it just clogs the brush and then fly off in all directions that get everywhere and stick to everything just waiting to be carried away and deposited anywhere you don't want it,including inside house, shower, vehicle, on your drive, your seats etc. Certainly an unenviable job but possibly one that needs to be done to preserve your chassis. |
