Dealer refused to take my order…
Had a D250 HSE 2 years ago, sold it after 2 months when I secured an offer which I would have been mad to refuse.

Called my local dealer today (different one to the one I originally bought from as they did not exactly cover themselves in glory) as I’m now in the market to replace my current car and Defender fits the bill well. When the conversation got round to the fact that I’d sold my previous Defender, I was told that they wouldn’t be able to take my order. It seems that they expect customers to hold onto their cars for at least 12 months! I did a quick google search and it seems JLR are asking customers to surrender their rights to sell on the car outside the dealer network within 6 months - I sold mine to another JLR main dealer. At the time, the only thing I was asked to sign was to not sell on if under 2000 miles - I didn’t breach that agreement.

There is no way I’m signing a piece of paper that locks me into keeping a car for 12 months. What if I have a change in personal circumstances? Not everyone is a speculator! I am planning to contact JLR customer services to clarify their position on this topic.

Does anyone have any experience of this? Seriously considering taking my business elsewhere. Plenty of other ways to spend £70k.

I find that odd as it took my dealer at least 6months, maybe more, to work out that I no longer had the car. I think I had a call regarding the second key and booking a time slot to have it programmed.... and that's when the penny dropped

I spent my £73k with BMW, £9k on storage batteries / smart charger and £12k on a Volvo for the dogs.

l suppose that if Land Rover don't like "flippers" there's nothing stopping them from refusing to take their business.

The dealer gets fined by Land Rover if a customer flips their vehicle, or at least they did in 2022 when l bought mine.

The classifieds are currently full of dealers trying to make a killing on new Range Rovers as there's currently a two year waiting list.
So l don't know how that works. My friend was offered £30,000 by the dealer to walk away from their new Range Rover.
Surprisingly he didn't take up their offer. He must have really wanted that Range Rover.

I’m on my 3rd since 2021 but always sold back to the dealer who matched the highest offer from WBAC and the likes. 24MY 90 D250 HSE, Tasman Blue

When I purchased a second user vehicle from the JLR dealer, he asked my address before making an appointment to view the vehicle.
It was only during the viewing when he said "this will suit your farm", I realised he had googled my postcode !! No doubt trying to find how much he could con me out of. I should have offered to pay him in cattle, although he did have enough BS already Laughing

Remember the days when you could negotiate a discount

l couldn't even get a set of free mats off the dealer when l collected my new Defender. Although it did come with half a tank of fuel and, joy, two keys

That would be worth a try, just to see if you've been blocked completely from buying one or if it's just the dealer.

It only came with half a tank because that is part of the OTR price so you paid for it anyway! Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

Ironically my Sister was talking about changing her car yesterday and asked me about a Defender.

All I said is, it will go wrong at sometime, and if you can insure it (she lives in London) , it will be expensive. Today I found out that she bought a BMW X53.0d with every option ticked. Already bleating about the £1600 insurance premium

BMW had plenty of issues with the new X5 when it was first introduced but (as with the new Defender) it's a lot better now.

Had 3 over the last 18years. Only issue I had was with the transfer box which BMW gave a 95% contribution to outside of warranty (4.5yrs old). Can't say fairer than that. Now if you mentioned nickability and stupidly hard suspension I would have said too right....horrible ride and an attempted theft cost me ££££, even with insurance

However that's not the moral of the story. The moral is to do with flippers and the fact that consequences goes both ways.... haven't ruled out a return to Landrover but it won't be a new one.
