10 gallons. Range depends on what the engine will do to the gallon. Have heard owners say they were getting 30 mpg but I never got anywhere near this. My well serviced 2.25 diesel 88", with a Rocky Mountain overdrive never returned more than 22-23 mpg. Will cruise (noisely)at 50 mph which is about your maximum speed. Fairly sprightly once warmed up but slightly over 50 is your maximum speed. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Asked on the Series2club for you....A quote! ...On an 88", 10 gallon tank, and if in good order and driven sensibly (and unloaded) 26-28 mpg?, so 260-280 miles. 'tis but a guess though!...

Thanks Zag, but like I said ,well serviced, overdrive etc and never much more than 23 mpg. When I bought I got a fair bit of work done on it, including a new chain and pulley and had the engine checked and anything necessary was done. Had dreams of high 20's in the mpg stakes but it was always in the low 20's. The 10 gallon tank coupled with the low mpg was a bit of a hindrance. Funny thing, when my daughter finally gets around to getting her licence it is the 88 she wants to drive and use it for going to college. This is a 44 mile round trip every day. She knows it's short comings and lack of comforts as she spent a lot of time in it with me but she really likes it. She regards it as "a cool car". She laughs at the time one cold morning we set off with frozen moisture on the unlined roof. When the heated did it's job we were deluged in drips. Her first modification will be some sort of headling. I am thinking camping mats but that is for the future. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Thanks for information folks. So a heavily laden series III on rough terrain will probably have an effective range of 200 miles.

Spud, sorry Mr Spud
![]() ![]() ![]() Leeds I can ask on the OLLR site for you also, I have no idea but do know everyone says they are gutless but reliable and many like them. And gutless is relative they will still pull the side of a house down! most whack in 200TDi as you know for econmomy but it's not a nice convertion, noisy, lots of vibration, very heavy front end and high risk of transmission breakage with extra oomph! MPG also only comes into it's own when doing a few miles. It's prety much the same 22 mpg ish if only going aorund town for instance! I'm no expert on all this but other forums discuss it all the time ![]() |

I had a S2 with a 2 1/4 diesel and O/D and found 25mpg about the best I could get, but wouldn't be much worse towing. I put a Perkins Prima (Montego/Maestro) diesel (also sold as a Volvo for marine use). The mpg got as good as 35mpg on a run but it was a bit gutless below 2000rpm.
