I think the problem is that I work for a very European+ organisation. My friends/colleagues are from all over - Greece, Switzerland, Spain, Austria, France, Bulgaria etc. etc. and we discuss Europe as citizens of it and not some foreign place we could do without. So there is an overpowering feeling of "one for all" amongst us. I am fairly sure I would not really be considered "British" any more by most. I'm fairly sure people can "smell" it when we visit the UK
