United Kingdom 2011 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Stornoway Grey
I'm not convinced the 2nd / 3rd gear thing isn't a myth in many cases caused by people expecting a Defender to drive like a Golf GTi.

I've never experienced it in any of mine. Cool John

United Kingdom 2007 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Tonga Green
2nd to 3rd gear issues - I was told the "crunch" was normal...

Expecting to need a new gearbox shortly... Evil or Very Mad Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion.

Once again thanks everybody for your contributions. I am veering towards the demo, it has 120 miles on the clock, so if they keep the mileage down, that could work for me. I have very deep reservations about DPFs in general. I don't have to make my mind up yet, going to sleep on it tonight.

Making a mental list of what to check, weather vehicle is new or demo. Check gearbox, check rattling handbrake and from personal experience, the body work.

Lucky you Wink Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...
