12v rear chassis loom diode?
Can anyone tell me if there should there be a diode in the 12v supply “purple wire” in the chassis loom?

Thanks

Hi Nick. What era vehicle do you have and what is the purple 12v supply going to?

The purple wire here, I have a corroded/melt3d wire and no idea of what diode to fit

Your 2nd diagram from the 99MY wiring diagrams is wrong.

There's no diode in the accessory socket wiring.

The purple wire (accessory socket permanent live) isn't connected to the red/yellow wire (rear fog lamps).

Furthermore, C1305 and C1306 do not connect together, as shown in that diagram, they are female bullets (with red blanking caps) on the accessory socket purple wires.

C1305 is on the vehicle side of the 9-way towing pickup connector (C0929), and C1306 is on the towing loom side of the 9-way towing pickup connector (C1260), (along with C0350) -

This diagram shows the correct wiring for the rear fog lamps -

The diode is in the rear fog lamp circuit (red/yellow wire) on the towing loom, between the 9-way towing pickup connector (C1260), and the 7N trailer connector (C0499)

I think it's one of the (many) mistakes on the 1999MY wiring diagrams.

That diode actually sits in the fog light supply to the trailer socket with no splice into the socket side, see https://www.lrworkshop.com/wiring-diagram/...s/fog-rear

If it was connected as shown in the power dist. diagram, splice A6 would supply fog light pin of the trailer socket (C0499-2) with 12V at all times, so the trailer fog light on the would be permanently on. Confused

This error in the 1999MY diagram is backed up by the 2002MY and Puma diagrams which are correct.

Also, C1306 and C1306 (which seem to be single bullet sockets) in the 1999MY elec library are shown NOT connected together: https://www.lrworkshop.com/connectors/defender-1999/C1305  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

No wonder I couldn’t work it out then. I’ve a lot of corrosion in this wire and it takes a strange route with many splices that are also corroded.

Do either of you know what size/style of diode it should have fitted?

It's on the fog light wire in the trailer loom that plugs into the socket on the chassis loom, it's not on the chassis loom.

From the elec lib it would have been something like an SR5100 diode crimped onto wires, with a heatshrink cap over the top, then taped into the loom.

But again, not on the purple wire in the chassis loom.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

For what it's worth, I think that splice A26 branch to the rear interior lamp is also bobbins.

The rear interior lamp is supplied from the roof loom, and is branched off the front lamp wiring.

Thanks this is the mess I have to deal with, I saw the diode in the diagram and the big puffy part and thought is that maybe a melted or corrode one.

Doesn't look to me like there was anything there, the cable's corroded badly and puffed up I think.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Thank you the diagram threw me for a loop, as it didn’t match I forgot there was so many errors in the early ones.
