Need some pointers to locate a water leak in the back of my double cab - and yes, I have been through the Puma leak manual
Under the rear seats I have noisekiller and a rubber mat/cover. I am getting water under the mat etc in the area between the wheel arches - top of the mat is bone dry. What has thrown me in the past is that the rear passenger carpets have got wet and I have put the problem down to door seals. What is actually happening is the water is getting onto the area under the seats and then wicking down through the carpet into the rear footwell and soaking everything. All the panel seams seem OK and spraying with a hose does not show anything. The water ingress appears to come from road spray when it has been raining hard, hence my initial thoughts that it was the lower door seals. Any ideas on where I should investigate ? Thanks in advance Bob |

Messy but good way of doing it is to dry the area and dust talcum powder under the carpet. Then leave and check a few weeks later. Should show quickly where it is coming in.

Hi Steve
Rivets and window seals are fine, water only appears under the seats and under the noisekiller mat. It has to be a panel seal or could be the rear seat fixings. No signs of water coming from above the mat,. No problem when vehicle is static, only appears when driving on wet roads. Dried everything Monday, all OK going into work Tuesday and then we had the mother of all storms Tuesday afternoon and checked before driving home - all OK. By the time I had done 20 miles under the mat under the seats was soaked (not the footwell). Blackwolf It's taken me two years to get rid of the front footwell leaks, this one is not going to defeat me I will let you know the resolution. Bob |

Panel fit is what I think as well. Problem is spraying with water shows nothing but I am thinking that there is some flexing when driving and this allows the water in. Luckily there is virtually no trim to remove. Waxoyl was one solution I had in mind as well Bob |

OK all double cab owners - I have found one leak but there are more
If you look under the rear window, about 6/7 inches below, you will see a hollow triangular bar running along the bulkhead. The position of the bar means that on the outside it will be below the top of the tub. Water is getting into this hollow bar, sloshing around, finding a gap and then running out, down the bulkhead and onto the floor. The water on mine ran down the join between two pieces of NK rubber hence why I could not see it. My tub has a tonneau cover and is pretty water tight so my guess is that the water is getting into this bar at the ends somehow - there is a gap between the end of the bar and the side panel. Also, I think the bar is spot welded on the inside but I suppose it could be a faulty weld. Just got to find the entry point now Bob |

Remove all carpets etc, put a tarp over the top of the car or cover all window areas and once its dark outside put a 500W halogen inside the car and inspect from the outside. Can be handy if someone is moving the light around inside the car.
Should make some things visible. I had a crack in the rear wheelarch which i could not find, the water was running down slowly at the exact corner edge of the wheelarch leaving a minimal trace. Saw it once i found the crack but otherwise no chance to spot it. good luck and a lot of patience! |

Thanks tatra
I was thinking of light outside and check on the inside but your way is far better Lucky the clocks go back this weekend, it will be dark by 6pm so I won't have to stay up all night Bob |

Had my DCPU for 4 months now and have been plagued with leaks and drips around the rear seats. I have to say, LR Hereford sorted it out after LR Stourbridge (shatstones) made a hash of it. I have marked up photos if anyone is interested. I gave these to Hereford so they could deal with every leaky area in turn and wouldn't miss anything as these leaks needed a good hour soaking to reproduce, not a quick spray with the hose.
I had leaking over my wheel arches from road spray, had numerous bits of silver automotive tape replaced under the seats and had a fair bit of sealant applied to the area under the channel where the back seats bolt back to the L-brackets. I think they replaced a few rivots, and also had a look at the channel which fixes down the back of the tilt to the top of the tub. 3 days work! Seems to be specific to the DCPU and the configuration where the cab meets tub. Keep having a good nosey under the seats with a torch whenever it rains and so far so good. |
