It’s to let the monsoon out and enable it to fill up quicker during river crossings…..

If you believe in karma and that your destiny is pre ordained, why worry about safety? Eiger Grey MY23 D250 SE with bits. Known as Noddy.

The first Mahindra to be sold in the UK was a license-built CJ-3b but usually fitted with a Peugeot diesel engine, there was nothing "series" about it and it was a bona fide Mahindra/Jeep creation. It had the "high hood" that was a feature of the 3b which was aesthetically unsatisfactory on a vehicle which otherwise bore a striking resemblance to an MB. It was crude, primitive, and a lot of fun, and is now a rare thing. I believe they were only taken out of production cir a 2011 but imports to the UK had stopped long before that. I always fancied getting one and putting a Rover V8 in it but like so many other good ideas never got around to it. The monstrosity in the first post makes the Mahindra CJ-3b look like a desirable prestige vehicle! |

Reminds me of the Korean SsangYong Korando, which like most manufacturers have evolved their practical 4x4s into family cars.

Makes you wonder why TATA did not sell the old Defender in India If they made it there and priced it right you would expect it to do well. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Too expensive and too sophisticated. Now if they still had the tooling for Series Ones .....

How would a Series 1 be cheaper than a Defender to build today? The lack of dashboard?
On later Defenders, with presssed doors, cast windscreen frame and in basic form should be cheaper assuming the tooling depreciation already done by 2016. Or I miss something (or everything) ? 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

Far simpler, far fewer parts, far less wiring, smaller, and less tooling required.

Did anyone buy the tooling when they closed up or did LR keep it?

From what has been made public, it is overwhelmingly likely that the tooling was scrapped. LR refused to sell any of it and there'd be little point keeping it.
Word from inside the factory was that it was cut for scrap. |
