Full Lock Power Loss
Hi All,

I have an odd issue with my Defender 110,

I had a few months of trouble free motoring and then when I visited Flatdog in Gainsborough I experienced an odd issue for the first time. When leaving their car park I lost all power whilst on full lock pulling onto the main road - I powered on through and then straightened up when I was on the main road. Originally I thought I had bottomed out as the entrance/exit their car park is quite steep.

I then drove home without issue and have used the defender a few times since, again fairly uneventful. A couple of weeks back I was playing musical cars on the drive and found I lost all power when reversing off of the drive. Again, as soon as i straightened up I was fine.

The only way I can describe the issue is that when I am on full lock, it feels like I am driving with the handbrake on, even though its not (indicated by a) checking and b)the fact that power returns). Could it be something to do with the wheels? (I think this is unlikely - 17" 8j, et20, w/spacers - though i dont know the size)

Has anyone else ever had similar? Its really baffling me!

Have you checked your central difflock isn’t in? This could cause binding of the drive system.

Yeah, I rarely use Diff-Lock as it hasn't been off-roaded yet. Transfer box is in the "unlocked" position and no light on the dash.

Will definitely give that some consideration if it happens again though, its possible i was "testing" the transfer box before hand and just managed to forget. The flatdog scenario concerned me more as a) I was away from home, and b) I would have used full lock to get into their car park in the first place Confused
