GKN Overdrive stolen gear knob advice!
I dropped my TD5 into a shop in London for some repairs and it came back with a different gear knob...

I have a GKN Overdrive fitted and so now there is no switch, it was replaced with a standard gear knob.

The shop are of course claiming they don't know anything and can't help... grrrr

Seems you can't get hold of the GKN gear knobs anymore, only managed to find the switch on Devon 4x4 (https://www.devon4x4.com/overdrive-gear-knob-switch.html).

So 2 questions:
1. Do you think it would work to just mount the switch somewhere else as a temporary fix?
2. Any ideas on why they would steal the old GKN gear knob???

Thanks! 2002 Defender 90 Td5

The overdrive will work wherever you mount the switch.... Don't know how the LED is wired in.
As for stealing the knob, I wouldn't let that go! Thieving scum Evil or Very Mad

What...! Shocked Who else would have taken it whilst your vehicle was in their care?! Evil or Very Mad

Options include a dash mount switch as stated above, or something like these might work:

https://www.moderndriveline.com/shop/shift...ck-3-8-16/

The final option is to talk to someone like Optimill who might be able/willing to make a replacement billet knob with switch.

Have you checked it’s just the knob that’s gone?

Ah great idea! Will try messaging them, but might try a temporary fix in the meantime.

I may have a GKN overdrive gear knob in my pile of 'spares'. My overdrive gave up many years ago but I think I still have the parts.

Will do my best to look this weekend.

If 130dreamer can't find his, drop me a PM and I will hunt through the junkpile. I scrapped the GKN years ago and sold the parts, but I've seen the gearknob recently...
