How much is in the tank?
If less than half full, lower the tank as is. If more than half full, syphon it via the filler. No need for a pump. |

I dropped my tank recently to fit an aux fuel line for a Chinese diesel heater..
I ran the tank to under a 1/4 and then removed the rubber section of pipe between the lockable filler and the plastic tank.. Once that's off its easy to get a hose into the tank and syphon what's left into a container.. Click image to enlarge |

Ain’t that the truth
I only ever get them when they’ve tanked them because it would start too! |

A bag and some duct tape over the end will minimise spillage.

If the light's on fuel will only come out if you tilt the tank a lot getting it out. It won't even make it unmanageably heavy.

Off the original topic but wondering if you considered one of these for the fuel pickup before dropping the tank? Takes 15 minutes to fit in the filler neck. Click image to enlarge |

hi... no not come across that fitting.. how does it fit ...and where do you take the aux fuel line out of the filler tube to connect to the dosing pump for the heater.. I wanted to drop my tank anyway to apply some body protection.. as it happens the sender unit on the tank has an aux off take pipe on it, so I didn't have to use the dip tube I had from previous work on a motorhome.. ill see if I can find the photo.. |

You cut the rubber filler neck pipe in half and insert the unit in before fastening it back up with a pair of jubilee clips. The pick up pipe then dips into the tank.
