Long ago the 7:1 CR cylinder head was replaced with a gas-flowed ACR high-compression cylinder head with SU carburetter - so the old Rover isn't lacking in power.

Yes, ACR provided that as part of a complete package.
Anyway, back on topic some research this evening hasn't thrown up any useful leads. The best alternative aviation connection is Speke (now Liverpool John Lennon) where there were a few operators of the Viscount airliner but I'd be surprised if that warranted a dedicated "local" Land-Rover, a van would suffice on the pan. The original buff logbook and petrol ration book was accidentally disposed of by my parents years ago, each blaming the other so that resource is lost. When I was doing some repairs to it a year ago there was evidence of red paint under the vent flap hinges, not sure if it was factory red or over painted. Suspect that a corporate purchase would buy the colour they required ex-works. I need to pay Gaydon a visit. Alternative is the plate was never originally associated with the vehicle but had some sentimental value so was fitted to it by the owner. . |

My Series 1 has an ACR head, cam and SU carb. Roland at ACR knows his stuff and albeit a tad expensive the modifications make it comparable to a Tdi. For those of you who know the A6 Road over Shap Fell, in some of the steeper climbs you can be down to 2nd gear in a Series 1, with the ACR conversion it will go up in 4th and not struggle. |
