This sentence caught my eye
"“Where do they test these things?" It seems the powers that be are so eager to get "cleaner" technology for transport they will jump at any proposal given to them without fully looking at the efficacy of it.Wonder if the EV thing will end up in a similar position. https://www.msn.com/en-ie/news/world/boris...amp;ei=245 1982 88" 2.25 diesel 1992 110 200tdi csw -Zikali 2008 110 2.4 tdci csw-Zulu 2011 110 2.4 tdci csw-Masai |

From talking to someone a couple of years back a bus route that was tested in Bristol had a number of complaints because they couldn't use the heaters for the passengers during the winter due to the negative impact on range and that a bus charging point near a university installed at great expense wasn't up to the job and was quietly removed
Bearing in mind that it takes 19 hours to fully charge a Ford Lightning from a home charger how long would it take to recharge a bus battery even on a fast charger. Surly any commercial vehicle that is sitting idol is not paying it way therefore is a cost liability to the owner and not a cost benefit. And technically speaking why would any company with the ability to purchase a clean commercial diesel vehicle even consider electric just to watch it sitting doing nothing whilst charging. They would almost have to buy two (at a stupid expense) and run them in rotation, and times that per route. And a final point, most buses i see around here or when i am out and about could be replaced with a mini bus for the amount of people using them. |

There's a lot of uncertainty, fleet managers across all types of commercial vehicle types are struggling to work out how to properly employ EVs .
Take buses, range is just one issue. I've spoken to one particular company who actually aren't to concerned about the range. Their main issues were grid connection for charging and depot space. Because buses are all mostly parked up overnight, that's when they must be charged. To provide enough energy to charge most of the fleet in those few hours often requires very expensive grid upgrades and that's if the local infrastructure can even be upgraded sufficiently to cope. Then there's depot space. To manage the risk of a battery fire taking out the whole depot and to aid shuffling things when buses are on charge they need bigger depots, either by buying adjacent property or relocating. Vans are an even worse conundrum. There are lots knock on effects that haven't really been worked out. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS |

Good point, you wouldn't want a line of them together......and that's before the arsonists arrive.

Over here a big fuss with lots of fanfare heralded the purchase of a fleet of electric buses which cost around €500,000 each. Lots of photo shoots included our minister for transport who is also leader of the Green party. Anyway the buses have been sitting for about a year. Seems for charging new electricity substations need to be built at depots to handle the buses and there are planning issues to over come. A lot of public money was spent on these buses but their introduction and utilisation does not seem to have been considered before purchase. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Green vehicles are the biggest con and most misunderstood nonsense government money spinner out there in my humble opinion. There isn’t the training or staff to fix or maintain any of it in place either.
