United Kingdom 2012 Defender 90 Puma 2.2 SW Corris Grey
Puma 110 2.4 Utility vs Station Wagon
Apart from the obvious, what's the difference between the Utility vs Station Wagon.

The Utility does not have windows at the back, as the Station Wagon does.
The Utility has 5 seats, as the Station Wagon has 7.

My intention is to install the Alu Cab Icarus pop up tent, and kit it out for overlanding. I'll probably only want one Gull Wing, and leave the other side closed.

I'm thinking the Utility would be better?

What are peoples opinions?

Thanks
John

You could always have a station wagon, and then have a glass gull wing on the one side and aluminium on the other?

Personally, I would rather "fill a hole" with a gull wing door, than cut a hole for an extra window. Especially as the gull wings tend to follow LR sizing. Thats personal preference though. And on the note of personal preference, I'd want symmetry between offside and nearside

The thing is, I've found a really nice 2010 2.4 110 utility low milage in good condition with a good spec for sale at a good price. Very Happy

Sounds like you know your answer already Razz

There are plenty of gull wings on the market now, if you can find them. Some with templates too - I'm just a wimp when it comes to cutting holes in panels...

Depending on age then taxation class is different I believe.
I know that post 2011 all Defenders were N1 which means cheaper road tax but can have implications in certain congestion and low emissions zones(?).
CSW 2010 and earlier are M1 which is quite a bit more road tax but classed as a car so do not have the same restrictions from councils penalising commercial vehicles.
Whether that matters depends on your location and where you will drive though.

Yes. My 2.4 USW is an M1 category. So it’s classed as a passenger vehicle. Which I think Is a good thing for these ULEZ expansions. M1 is the way forward IMO. 2008 2.4 110 Utility Station Wagon XS.

you could always swap one side panel on a USW for a SW one and fit the gullwing in the window hole thus saving the USW side panel for future reversibility.

At some point the CSW had softer rear springs, bit obviously that is an easy fix. Also considering anti roll bars if you are going to carry loads

The best advantage of a USW is that the road tax is about half price of a CSW!!! (and they look loads cooler).

As a USW owner (bought mine new in 2011) I was going to say this. I found the USW had a bumpy ride from the rear (unladen) so I originally tried CSW springs (and lower tyre pressures), but then changed them again for even softer springs. I rarely have rear-seat passengers, and rarely carry heavy loads (I use the trailer for heavy loads) so don't need USW springs in the rear. However if you intend loading the vehicle, the USW would be better on std springs I guess Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

Well I ended up purchasing the 110. It drives so much nicer than the Wife’s 90, and the 90 is on comfort springs and Fox shocks. Here’s a picture Thumbs Up
