Adding a lazer light LED with full beam - where to fix?
Hello.

Does anyone know what the rules are for positioning extra LED lights are that are wired to come on / off with the full beam. I’m installing a Lazer ST2 so fully e marked. Does it have to sit between the headlights? Or can it be bulkhead mounted on the passenger side?
(I will also have a switch to turn it off manually)

Many thanks in advance.

Ed.

As long as they are wired to the main beam so that they go off automatically with them, there are very few restrictions and requirements on these 'optional' lights. The appropriate extract from the Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations can be read HERE.

The only thing that seems to be relevant is that they must be fitted centrally if a single light and equidistant from the center line if fitted in pairs. That suggests that your idea of fitting one on the passenger side is not permitted. Darren

Thankyou. I also came across that, so sounds if I added one to each bulkhead I should be ok. I’ll also ask my garage (who have an mot tester) what they think.
Thanks Ed.

What do you mean by "bulkhead mounted"? You will find them a major nuisance if they illuminate the bonnet!

Not my photo but this is what I was thinking … and I’m thinking of using the smaller lazer st2

That will I suspect be almost unusable. You'll have a bonnet which looks like a supernova and a pool of intense darkness immediately in front of the vehicle.

I strongly suggest a temporary lash-up to try it before.you drill any holes.etc.

Americans seem to be obsessed with mounting lights there for some reason. Then call them ‘ditch lights’ - presumably because that’s where you end up when trying to drive by them.

Ha … I’m definitely not American. I’ll let you all know how I get on.

If fitted properly, they're supposed to point off to the sides and hence light up any ditches, hence the name. I agree that having them facing forwards would be pointless though. Darren

Best place is the front bumper in the center, I mounted a 42 cm light bar there wired into the main bean as we did a lot of driving on the islands and highlands and single tracks and well, it was also handy for field work at night.

Theres no point mounting anything on the bulkhead, it will be next to useless.
