wonder if someone can explain the following;
I know a couple of people with number plates that are on various cars (perhaps all <3 years old and hence no MOT0). However one of the cars is much older. All number plates showing as 'no details' on the gov tax / MOT checker? I've got both 'private' and standard number plates - in each case details are on the gov website? can it be legal? |

I had this a while back with some very duff driving of what appeared to be a Policeman in full uniform and when reported was told they couldn't do anything aa no details......
not sure if its was a simple fob-off or more to it but if I had seen the driver stopped there would have been words due to his manner - maybe at that point the Police might have been more interested...... |

My lease car shows up on the system even though registered to the lease company.
Not certain what happens if someone doesn't register a car in their name, given that the previous owner should have had his details removed. Only other thought is are they in witness protection. Nothing like a conspiracy theory |

Many vehicles will not return results when you check, we've managed many for the Met & British Transport Police and they don’t appear on any public DVLA check, same with many of our managed MOD vehicles.
And as previously identified a lot of doggy registered vehicles on our roads, more than you would imagine. Ride like you stole it!! If I’m not on a bike it’s because only a 4x4 will do… 2011 2.4 Puma 90 HT |

nothing to do with MOD etc.
these are to all intent and purposes just privately owned (or lease vehicles). knowing how they operate generally I suspect nothing more than dodgy - however I'm perplexed as to how they get on with insurance and MOT ? Using the original normal number registration perhaps? I wonder if the private numbers are simply on retention somewhere? |

HRH exactly… Also diplomats
And you might say it’s not MOD but all our MOD and special Police vehicles won’t return information if searched for. Ride like you stole it!! If I’m not on a bike it’s because only a 4x4 will do… 2011 2.4 Puma 90 HT |

I would imagine that the DVLA database is in turmoil. Covid has really turned Swansea into a black hole of missing documents lost paperwork and bitter customers.
Personally, I have had no issues with them on two fairly complex dealings in the last year, but there are reports od horror. |

Perhaps they're false plates?

acquaintance had an ex-lease car a while back that had different plates front & rear.............
from memory think the front one was correct as A123 ABC and the rear one was A132 ABC......looked right at first glance |
