300 tdi problem. Going fine, hit the brakes. Brake pedal hard to push down, car takes longer to stop. Any ideas? 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Failed vacuum servo, or the supply to it.

After the engine has been running you can pull the vac pipe out of the servo and you should hear a very big hiss, as vacuum is released. Also whilst vac pipe is out, start engine and you should be able to feel the vacuum, when you put finger over end of pipe.
It could be failed servo (often crack), it could be failed vacuuming pump, or it could be failed vacuum pipe, or the T or pipe that is in the pipe that goes to the EGR depending on model. |

I presume it is like braking on a series 111 now! Can't get her on the phone. I'd say she could drive safely just give herself extra stopping distance until it is sorted. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

It will be worse than a series, as the newer system was designed to be assisted, older wasn’t. I wouldn’t recommend driving it if it was my wife (I don’t have a daughter)

Just got a message to say that she got home, slowly but safely. I told her to check the hose going from the servo to the engine. It happened so quickly it sounds like the hose came off at one end. I will update when this is sorted as to what the problem was.
Thank you for all who gave advice. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel 1992 110 200tdi csw -Zikali 2008 110 2.4 tdci csw-Zulu 2011 110 2.4 tdci csw-Masai |

Update. 90 is back on the road. It was the vacuum pump needed replacing. It was £85 for the parts (pump and gasket I presume) and £60 for the labour. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel
