Groaning sound when easing off throttle
Hi

My Td5 90 (2006 reg, 33k miles on it) has been making a few irritating sounds, I'm trying to figure out what's causing them.

Firstly, as in the title, when cruising at 40/50+ in 5th gear (always seems to be in 5th), sometimes when I begin to slightly ease off the throttle, straight away it causes a loud, deep groaning sort of sound which can last about a second or 2 (nearly like the sound you'd hear in a car which had veered onto the white line on the side of a motorway) and then stops whether I'd kept off the throttle or back on. If I applied more throttle immediately from the start of the groan, it'd tend to stop straight away.

Second sound.. a deep clunk/knocking from the middle/rear of vehicle when going over the odd bump but sometimes it can seem to happen when driving along the flat. Yes, I have replaced the rear damper bushes and A frame ball joint/upper link bushes. Haven't yet got around to replacing the rear trailing arm bushes though.

Prop-shaft play seems normal and the bolts aren't loose etc.

I sometimes wonder if there's something loose in the gear or transfer box sliding back and forward Confused I included the mileage above as I don't particular think the clutch is knackered yet.

Thanks for any thoughts

As above props, or have you dropped/changed the box fluids and checked what comes out?

Does it roll ok, no tight brakes?

The propshafts UJs and splines are adequately greased, gearbox oil was fine several thousand miles ago.
