One of my DRLs has stopped working
My driver's side DRL has stopped working on my Defender 90. I presume this is a dealer fix but does anyone know what is involved? Is it a replacement unit and if so, are they generally in stock these days?

Obviously not the end of the world, but the car does look ridiculous with just one DRL. Big Cry

Unless it’s something like a loose wire, then it’ll more than likely be a whole new unit. 24MY 90 D250 HSE, Tasman Blue

This DRL failure has been an issue on the LR forum in the USA.

It's a warranty replacement

If LR do 'replace' the whole head lamp unit, you have a claim of right to ask for the failed unit, as it's your property.
You could punt it on eBay as 'spares or repair'

If Dealer argues, tell them it's your property and they should not dispose of it.

Some one did it with a whole engine, took it to court ...... and won !!!!

They may claim it has to go back to Land Rover for technical reasons

But otherwise yes, the spare parts would be useful to have. l assume we are talking about the premium LED headlights with "halo" DRL

l've not heard of any failures with the standard headlights

You're not alone, I've seen two 22 plate Defenders recently with only one DRL and a Range Rover today.

Reminds me of that recent thread about long term ownership, depreciation vs cost three or four owners down the line.

Lots of reports of this on the various Fb groups too. Problem has been how long it is taking to get hold of replacements Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

Thanks everyone for the replies. Yes, after some googling, it does seem to be relatively (and disappointingly) common. The lights on mine are the premium matrix LED lights so that's a good call to make sure I get to keep the failed unit.

I guess I could live with it if the other failed as well, and then I'd just do without DRLs. It's a shame you can't turn them off.

It looks like they are out of stock on the Powerful UK site, so perhaps I will have to wait a while. I'll find out tomorrow when I speak to the dealer.

I presume a missing DRL would fail the MOT when the time comes, otherwise I’d say the same - just do without them.

As it is a legal requirement you could be pulled for having a defective DRL since the vehicle is technically unroadworthy. I'm not sure if you could use this awkward fact to pressure your dealer.

It is strictly a VOR ("vehicle off road") fault.

Re keeping the old unit, have you watched the Powerful Uk video of taking one apart. Basically by the looks of it they are scrap. He’s not shown the video of putting one in a new case, probably gave up on it. 110 XS 250 MY 23 Gondwana Stone, Cold climate pack and towbar

And would there be a warning light on the dash, which would make it a future MOT failure...

Glad l didn't tick the "Premium LED headlights" box now !

As l plan to keep my Defender long term, l wouldn't want to be spending thousands on new headlights four years down the line

There's no warning light on the dash to tell you the DRL has failed. I only figured it out when I caught sight of the car's reflection in a shop window as I made a U turn.

I also plan on keeping this Defender 90 for a while, and this sort of thing is really frustrating. It also feels - as I drive around - like I'm advertising to the world the "unreliability" of the car.
