ask the same question of the Hybrid Range Rovers that are sat in storage yards awaiting repair by Main Dealers ?
And they are only 6-7yrs old. |

I can’t see many passing the 10-12 year mark. Maybe those one owner vehicles that have been cared for - but the ones with multiple owners, very much doubt. 2008 2.4 110 Utility Station Wagon XS.

Years ago l used to frequent breakers yards for parts for my Triumph Vitesse.
All the cars in the yard were rusted out junk. Nowadays if you visit a breakers (sadly you can't climb over the wrecks with a set of spanners like back then) it looks like a used car showroom with many modern vehicles that look better than the one on your driveway. Many people these days don't want to be seen in a ten year old car, and it that car is a high end or complex one such as a hybrid or EV it will struggle to find an owner. Unless independent LR specialist invest in the knowhow to problem solve the computer systems then i cant imagine potential third or fourth owners wanting a complex vehicle and then having to use a main dealer for work.
Therefore its that tipping point over what's cheap to buy but too expensive to maintain question. Didn't someone comment on here once that they were quoted almost a grand to replace rotors and pads. How much would a full infotainment system cost, and that is if replacement parts are still available in ten years time. Modern cars are in the same vein as mobile phones and laptops. Great when they are new, annoying when the tipping point is reached and a worthless brick when dead. Only the current owner, their bank balance and the continued anti car money grabbing attitude of your local council can answer the question over longevity. |

Only my brother's that he has had for 20+ years, and even then he had to buy a scrapper about 10 years ago to strip it for future parts.

l read that, so l checked and you can get aftermarket parts for around £200. Okay once the vehicle is out of warranty |

Like all landrover from the series one to present day they will last as long as you keep bolting on new parts

The problem is likely to be parts supply rather than the ability to keep bolting them on. Once electronic modules become obsolete and go out of production, it's very difficult to have them recreated.
To a small extent, this has even affected the later original Defenders as the AS10 alarm module went out of production and a not wholly successful replacement (initially, at least) had to be cobbled together. It's also a problem with the BBUS modules. For the more integrated components in modern vehicles it'll be a nightmare.
