I'm taking a hybrid approach. Using OBD2, Arduino, LCD display showing analogue gauges.
Progress is slow, work keeps getting the way of doing fun things. |

I think the very traditional, & very good, Smiths gauges would be excellent. Easy to buy I suppose, but connecting & particularly mounting would be more of an issue, in a Puma anyway, IMHO. But done properly, I reckon they'd work out well.

The M4 CAN board has a CAN bus transceiver and driver all included so it will connect directly to the vehicle CAN bus. With some coding OBD2 requests are sent and data received. So far I have this data: Battery voltage Engine temperature Ambient temperature Exhaust gas temperature DPF load EGR duty |

The Adafruit website has all the information you for working with their boards. I've used some code from https://github.com/sandeepmistry/arduino-OBD2 for the OBD2 stuff. Wikipedia has a really useful page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OBD-II_PIDs As soon as I have something stable and useful, I'll publish it all on GitHub. PM me for status updates. |

I have an LS3 6.2 V8 with 6 speed auto fitted, so really wanted to monitor my T&Ps, plus my dual battery system.
I monitor Engine oil Pressure and Temp, Engine Coolant temp (also have a loss of coolant alarm) Transmission oil temp, 2 Battery volts and amps, as well as the head temp. These gauges also provide ext ambient and internal temp. I run Australian made Redarc everything, inc gauges and they are good, if not difficult to read the gauge needle (LCD display) as the needles are very thin against the background. There is another way -
I have a cheap blue-tooth tablet, which I normally use for navigation, running a free app- Tourque, paired with a cheap OB2 reader which gives me a wide range of live ‘gauges' at the touch of a finger and no wiring. It works very well and was useful when driving in the hot weather keeping an eye on the engine temperature. Glad I found this thread as I would like to get some digital engine data since having the LS but want to keep it as discreet as possible. Is there a small display out there that I can scan between the various outputs? Andy

I have the Madman EMS and EMS2 version.
Both great and lots of crucial info to monitor. You can set parameters for alerts etc. Highly recommend…. |

I prefer analog gauges. I don't need many just the three basics (for a diesel): EGT, voltmeter, and outside temp. Yes, the last is a bit odd but here in the frozen north, knowing if you are above or below freezing can be critical. I find the +3C to -5C themperature range to often provide "exciting" road conditions. Warmer or colder, not so much.
