I've found a lot of good advice on this forum but never posted anything until now. I'm hoping to buy another TD5 after mine met an untimely end.
Just asking for a rough going rate for an XS spec TD5? Not particularly low mileage and nothing fancy in the way of extra's, a very bog standard 2002-2005 XS spec. The price of any TD5 model seems to have shot up and varied quite a lot since I last bought one and I'm struggling to get a guage on prices. If you were going to buy a TD5 (XS or not) under 120k miles with a solid chassis, what would you be looking to pay? Cheers in advance |

Love the TD5, such a good era of Defender. The only things I would say are;
1) Do not be deterred by mileage. As long as the vehicle has been regularly serviced then almost any mileage would be fine for me. How do I know this? Miffy (my 2003 110) is knocking on 1/4 of a million miles and if you didn't know that you'd think she had under 100k on the clock. It is all down to the maintenance and the replacement of serviceable components. I would prefer a looked after 250k mile Defender than a neglected 100k mile Defender. 2) It is often said, but absolutely worth saying again: "Do not buy the first one you see". Go and visit at least 5 if not many more until you find the one that makes the most sense for your budget and spec requirements. 3) Price: I expect the prices you will see on websites/forums will come down a little over the next six months or so. Be patient. Cash is King. When you see the one you want offer what you are willing to pay for the vehicle. You might be surprised at what sellers are willing to accept as vehicles are not moving quickly at the moment. The question is: Do you want a concours vehicle or are you willing to put effort in to making a vehicle to meet your requirements?? |

Good TD5 90 XS station Wagons are in the region £16-20,000
You'll pay a premium for low mileage (under 50,000) probably nearer £25,000 but as above, buy on condition rather than mileage. Prices are falling from their highs a couple of years ago due to the increase in LEZ's across the country. With regards to spec, what you WANT is a "bog standard" one, not one that's been ruined with aftermarket tat and fancy seats etc. |

A quick trawl online
And This looks a good bet from a dealer. And if true, "previously owned by a Land Rover enthusiast who restores series 3's" So should have been looked after. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/185775186694?mk...media=COPY |

Cheers, guys. I went and viewed quite a few, finally settled on an unmolested 2003 G4 90. Has most of the spec of a XS bar the heated seats (easily rectifiable) and carpeted rear load area. Far more comfortable than my old ex-raf 51 plate.

Great news that you found one to buy.
How about a photo of it on here, so we can have a look! Hide the reg. number if you are worried about that. |
