Alibaba - awnings, tents etc, 1/5th the UK price - opinions?
Have always wanted a 270 degree awning, particularly one that's square on the side and wraps round to the rear.

Trouble is I can't personally justify the £1800 for the beautiful Darche one I'd really like when that would be better spent on a trailer to avoid the inside of my 110 looking like it's been pressurised from within with "stuff" on every trip!

So I thought I'd have a look round.

I'm well aware Dara and TuffTrek sell a really really good value wrap around awning for about £650 which gets great reviews. And Dara gives great service and is always sort supportive and reliable. I've got one of his excellent 1.8m TT02's and it's been a superb investment.

Trouble is.... This is advertised for significantly less than that. And the £400 spare would go half way to a Penman trailer Rolling with laughter

Anyone bought directly from an Alibaba seller?

Any warnings or experiences?

Sorry for phone shots. No idea how to link on there.

Quality looks average but acceptable.

I was looking at roof tents on there at the weekend. They are a fraction of the price of UK supplied ones.
You'll have to factor in VAT, import taxes, delivery charges and the hassle of having little comeback if there are any problems.

True, 20% + maybe £40 equivalent to ship it, +5% duty from memory (was the lights import duty on stedi from Australia so may be different)

What tent were you looking at? Thinking of doing it?

I ended up buying a 'Hayburner' roof tent from ebay. Ihadn't heard of them before, appear to be marketed towards VW owners. 2nd hand but not sure its ever been used looking at the condition of it and it was just down the road. this was something for the kids to kip in on top of the trailer so didn't want to spend a fortune. I've got a direct4x4 hardshell on the 130,

I reckon at lot of the UK roof tent sellers are buying the same kit from Alibaba, they will even badge them up for you with your company logo if you buy enough. A lot of the stuff from direct4x4, tentbox etc is identical apart from the badging.

I've bought stuff before from Alibaba but not tents or awnings. I bought some remote start boxes for Toyota Land Cruisers, they were about £120 each, I'm pretty sure you have to pay the vat to Alibaba now and I had them delivered within a week via DHL. I also seem to remember that the seller doesn't get paid by Alibaba until you have confirmed you have received the item and are happy with it, also beware that some sellers have a minimum purchase quantity Thumbs Up Cheers Ian
