So I know PowerfulUK makes a great retrofit kit to augment the anemic OEM backup lamps:
https://www.powerfuluk.com/vehicles/land-r...white.html But for a less invasive solution, I was considering using one of these license plate mounted reverse lights: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B081S91LFV/?coli..._lig_dp_it And instead of splicing into the factory wiring, a cleaner solution would be to use the pre-made factory wiring loom taping in kit from PowerfulUK: https://www.powerfuluk.com/vehicles/land-r...-l663.html The cost gets pretty close, but like half the work since it's just one light and getting into the reverse light wiring on one side instead of both sides. Anyone know an easier way to access the wires for the reverse lamps than is shown in the PowerfulUK instal video? What do you all think?[/url] |

Would it blind the camera by shining into it?

That's a good consideration. According to the listing's QA section, the light bar is angled down about 20 degrees. Perhaps it would prevent light blooming given how close the rear camera is to to the top of the license plate mounting point.
Alternately, maybe mount it to the lower screw holes on the license plate to create some more distance? |

OK, I looked into license plate mounted LED lights and couldn't find any great options which wouldn't risk creating too much glare for the rear view camera mounted just above the license plate. And since I would have to pop off the rear corner panel to get at the connector for the reverse lamp circuit and route wires creatively through the bumper, I figured it would be better to just do it properly w/ a purpose designed solution instead.
I found this alternative reverse light upgrade (PowerfulUK's are really nice but currently sold out): Click image to enlarge You can find these at some UK Defender mod retailers, on EBay and some Chinese electronics sites. Given that the latter can be rather unreliable, I'd go with the other options or PowerfulUK's option if you wan't something w/ an actual guarantee/warranty. I did a more detailed write up in another post: https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic87043.html Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge |
