05 Td5 90 project

Well we all need a good project to keep us busy, I’d heard about a Defender that had been damaged and put away in a shed locally years ago and chased the lead and thought I’d found it, chased the owner for about a month and finally managed to buy it

Fixed it up and thought nothing more about it:

Fixed it up and unfortunately had to sell it to buy a house at the time….

Only to be talking to mate and realise that there’s two guys - no less with the same first name and he had also rolled a td5 90’s, under the same circumstances on a icy road and a R plate driver, it was still sitting in a shed and he’d seen it a few weeks ago…..

The owner wouldn’t let me buy it that easy though and it took some work. I fixed his other defender that no one else could, got myself in the good books and finally managed to buy it

You all might think I’m mad, but it’s been sat in a dry shed for over 10 years is one of the last of the td5’s,a 90 and in my favourite colour with very low mileage.

I’ve had one new genuine chassis tucked away for a few years, fitted it with td5 engine mounts and got it back from the galvaniser a few weeks ago, gathered up some nice parts for it the last year and I’m getting excited to get it back together

Got it stripped:

The roof unfortunately had the telehander fork hole in it when it was recovered

Floors and tunnel came out, the condition shows as every screw came out without the grinder

It will be great to see this when it's done, quite a project but at least it will have been saved and keeps another one on the road

Yeah I’m a bit of a sucker for a sorry old one and like a challenge.

Like I said it wasn’t very old when it got damaged and was never claimed on the insurance either -so makes it a great one to fix up with the year and low mileage, fortunately I did work on them as a occupation and have a lot of the parts sitting to repair it.

I have a similar story also!

I am about to purchase a similarly rolled 2002 td5 90 with only 21k miles and its like new apart from the damage and stored in a dry barn, it didn't cost a lot either! I plan to rebuild it as a heritage or NAS style soft top for myself as a toy. 2008 Santorini Black 110 XS USW (Sold)
