There could've been some temporary EM interference in the area? I know for a fact that if the immobilizer kicks in before you realize you parked somewhere with EM interference that you will have to push the truck out of the coverage of the EM field before it can start as normal again. So the first thing I do after shutting off the engine in an EM field suspect area is to lock and unlock the truck with the FOB before the immobilizer kicks in (couple of seconds) if the truck locks and unlocks, you're good, if the truck doesn't lock after maybe 2 presses of the FOB, you may want to look for a different parking spot or have a bunch of mates handy to push you beyond the EM bubble.

Very frustrating, I drove home parked up . Attempted to start it again the next day & back to cranking for a few seconds then nothing . I rechecked terminals on back of ignition switch & two were loose . I replaced these connectors . It started on the button 4or 5 times in a row . Waited for an hour or so & now won’t start again . Back to square one. Things I have done so far , replaced main battery, replaced complete steering lock assembly inc switch. Had 10 as unit checked & fobs replaced by technozen. I’ve checked all the earths underneath. Going to code read it tomorrow hopefully, maybe I need to do the ipac shunt or crank sensor?

Sounds like you have tried just about everything.
It will be interesting to see what codes if any come up. |

Had an issue like this a while back, turned out to be some corrosion on the OBD pins, I had an UltraGauge plugged in at the time. Haven’t a clue how it happened and hasn’t since 5 years at least

I also note on your other post on the 10AS that your clock is running backwards. https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic86267.html
1. So given you have changed the ignition switch double check you have the correct wires on the correct terminals on the switch. 2. When it won’t start, remove the instrument cluster then disconnect the instrument cluster connector and bridge pins 3 and 4 with a solid wire or paper clip. Now with the cluster not connected start the vehicle. if vehicle starts this will identify if you have the instrument cluster issue. See page 7 , one before last post on this topic page from Martin https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic47486...p;start=90 |

Hi Ian , I’ve double checked wiring to ignition switch all good . I have also done the shunt trick it’s not made any difference. Code read it have got 2 codes U0155 & p1602 . Suspect one of those codes maybe to do with shunt job. Got some more info from one of martins posts to check out . Definitely a head scratching time.

Mine recently did something similar, cranked but wouldnt start, then nothing at all, lights on ok but not turning over. Then suddenly it would start. Mine was the key fob battery.
Can you lock and unlock from a distance? I know your post said they have been replaced but might be worth a new battery. What does the red light under the speedo do? Other than that im out. |

Update on the puma starting problems! I’ve carried out all the tests with bypassing relay checking earthing & connecting the ipac wires . The landrover fired into life straight away ! Short lived joy ! 4 starts later it’s exactly the same won’t crank . If I wasn’t bald I’d be pulling my hair out 😂 .
Any further suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

I’m sure I had this a couple years ago and very intermittent and it lasted several weeks then it was fine again I did have corroded wires going to the elec windows where it passes in to the door and the door lock was playing up at the same time .

Thanks Stew , I will certainly check the wiring in the doors again but they looked ok .This has been an ongoing issue since the very cold weather before Christmas where the old battery went absolutely dead & the alarm kept going off .hopefully I will eventually find the problem .
looks like it would be quicker to get my 200tdi disco back on the road ,haven't used it for 6 mths put a set of leads on it this morning & it fired straight up . Last edited by Marcus68 on 11th Mar 2023 1:49pm. Edited 1 time in total |

I’m not sure if the wires and lock had anything to do with it , I also fitted a new battery at the same time but the problem stopped , I was worried every time I went out and started to lose confidence in her .
