Got a phonecall the other night. Someone had a puncture and the jack they were using was giving bother.Could I help? So I took the scissor jack from the workvan and headed out in the Puma. Arrived on the scene and promptly set to work with the scissor jack and flashlight. A scrunching sound was heard and the car descended with a bang. Investigation showed that the scissor jack had gone up through the rusty rotten floor of the car. Bit of head scratching ensued. I needed the scissor jack for the workvan and it was firmly embedded in the floor of the rusty heap with the flat wheel. Finally thought of a solution. The trolley jack from the Puma. I had never used it in anger before but it got the job done by lifting the car at the sill.Got the wheel changed and the scissor jack out-with great difficulty. Had thought I'd have to tie the scissorjack to the Puma and tow it out it was that far embedded in the car but I managed it o.k. At least it was not raining.
Another evening I got a call. Someone's wife had left the car in a supermarket carpark a bit too long. She came back only to find the supermarket closed and the entrance chained off.Could I help. Out with the Puma, a trailer and some planks of wood. Arrived on scene. Used the planks to make a ramp to drive the low car up and over the footpath surrounding the carpark. Another time I made a 160 mile trip to pick someone up from a breakdown. Later on I found out they could have got a bus. Was not a camper. Anyone else any odd "good Samaritan" stories. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel 1992 110 200tdi csw -Zikali 2008 110 2.4 tdci csw-Zulu 2011 110 2.4 tdci csw-Masai |

A couple of years ago, used my Discovery TD5 to tow a beached 5-series BMW out of the show drift he had beached in.... I wouldn't take the offered payment, but a couple of days later there was a pile of beer on my doorstep! Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

In the snow the winter before last a mate of mine who runs a taxi service called to ask if I was at home.
Two of his drivers had ignored his suggestion to keep to the main roads around the village and stuck two of his cars (Sharan) and some other VW thing in drifts down the little roads. They'd spent a couple of hours trying to dig them out and almost got his third and last car stuck trying to tow them free. 15 mins later I pulled them both on to the main road with the TR90 He was rather impressed John http://www.hampshire4x4response.co.uk 2011 Tdci 110 CSW XS |

A couple of years ago on a cold wet night a Corsa misjudged a tight corner in a car park and got the car stuck over a kerb (the driver only passed her test that morning!), so managed to get her car off the kerb for her and set off on my way home, feeling proud of myself for doing a good deed for someone...
...Then noticed a huge puddle by a bus stop on my way home and thought it'd be rude not to have a cheeky splash, so had a quick glance around to make sure no one was in the bus stop (no light in the bus stop) and couldn't see anyone so floored it and made an huge impressive splash, only to look in my rear view mirror to see a gaggle of goths stepping out of the bus stop absolutely soaked...... Think that cancelled out my good deed in the car park |

When I had my 'challenge' spec 90..I got a phone call at 1130 at night saying
''I'm stuck on a lane, can you come recover me?'' Of course I said 'yes' Where are you? They were an hour away from me The guy did buy me a bottle of wine and the 'then wife' a vase! Bless! I've done loads of good samaritan stuff As most Defender drivers do ! |

I towed someone out who rolled down our 1 in 3 hill into a ditch. He was chuffed to bits despite his rather scraped up car.
I then posted up how useful the 110 was and promptly got an earful from half of the forum... Sometimes best to keep good 4x4 deeds to yourself... Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion. |

Was asked to pick up someone at an airport so in I went. Had absolutely no idea what the pickupee (is that a word?) looked like.So I was standing watching the passengers alight when someone approached me and asked if I was here for him. Think so I said and off we went. I asked how he knew he had the right person. He said he had been told I'd be wearing a checked shirt. Lots of people wear checked shirts I replied. I was told yours would be dirty he said. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel
