They've already proven they don't have enough production capability to keep up with demand of the more expensive models. So why on earth would they add yet another vehicle to the growing list of cars they can't produce!? Especially a cheap one..
Look at the availability of the Disco Sport - for all intents and purposes, a "cheap defender". 9/12 models on the website aren't even available to order. The remaining 3 (over £52k P300e models) have delivery estimates of 9-12 months.. which we know probably means 18months. Do they think they can produce something cheaper than the Disco Sport on a production line which isn't already producing more expensive models? Are they finally going to mothball Jag? Pop a defender shell on an e-pace? |

Land Rover has never produced cars for the masses. Even from its earliest origins.
As for building a DS, why would you if you can sell higher priced vehicles without thinking abut it? However, LR needs to rethink its product line and thin it out. There is too much cross over. |

I agree... They need less models rather than more! The big sellers are the FFRR, RRS, & Def.
The Velar, Evoque, Disco & Disco Sport are picking up the scraps - so why bother!! Just make more of the big sellers... |

LR management seem to be taking the same attitude to electrification as Toyota has until recently - basically we will try anything else before we electrify despite what governments are telling us what will happen in 2030………….. IPace was world car of the year 2018 and what have JLR done since then to expand the range - they cancelled the next electrified Jaguar. It’s also scary to read that the two most reliable Jaguars you can buy aren’t built by Jaguar, both the I-Pace and E-Pace are built by Magna Steyr in Gras, Austria on the same line as BMW’s 5 series, Mercedes G-Wagon, Toyota Supra and the Fisker Ocean.
The Toyota Bz4X/ Subaru Solterra has been roundly slated in the motoring press for being about wher the Nissan Leaf was in tech terms 12 years ago. Fine car let down by a dire charging curve. Almost everyone I know who owns an I-Pace loves it apart from the huge purchase price and while it hasn’t kept up with the EV tech in terms of battery tech it is still a good car to drive. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come 2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed! |

I really liked the iPace I had - but the charge speed and efficiency are off the mark these days. I am just about to cancel an order for a RRS 440e cos I can't wait forever and I don't want to be forced to decide between refusing a price rise in a few months and being sucked into higher costs if/when it finally arrives.
Very disappointing as its EV range is perfect for a decent tax advantage through my business, it still has a decent boot and facility for a full size spare plus towbar which is unmatched by any BEV. If they did a BEV discovery I would have one now (assuming I had managed to order it in time!) but I am very close to cancelling the RRS and getting a Defender instead. Really don't want to go back to diesel but on looking around there isn't really anything I fancy. Hate the XC90 phev I have had for a year now (though a new one would be tax efficient and probably smoother / quieter than mine) - the front wheel drive petrol with electric rear drive is not good when you use the power - the front wheels tug like an 80s hot hatch A PHEV Defender is definitely not happening as the used ones are really stupid prices, and I cannot bring myself to spend over £50k on a PHEV disco sport - though at least they have improved the elector range on that recently (I think) |

At the tail end of last year, over 70% of the total order book (of 205,000 vehicles) was for the big three, the remainder was the other four models... |
