I've had a similar starting problem, 2007 2.4 TDCi 97000 miles.
Fails to start on first turn of the key but starts on the 2nd. The glow plug symbol goes out then I try and it doesn't catch, repeat the same process and it starts, once it has started there is no more issues with stopping and starting for that day. Initially thought it was a low battery due to lack of use and the colder weather but it has the same problem on warmer days. I've tried pumping the accelerator in case it's air in the fuel system. Checked the relays and fuses and all in tight and good. Any ideas? Craig. “Don't believe everything you read on the internet.” ― Abraham Lincoln www.scotgrc.co.uk |

Pumping the accelerator will achieve absolutely nothing on a 2.4, the fuel pump is purely mechanical.

Crofter, thank you I'll have a try tomorrow with the multi meter and some assistance.
Where exactly did you check for voltage and did you unplug anything to check? Blackwolf, thank you. I read it on another thread as something to try to bleed the fuel line of air, not sure what engine it was referring to but obviously not a 2.4 Craig. “Don't believe everything you read on the internet.” ― Abraham Lincoln www.scotgrc.co.uk |

I measured on the red bit. But if you feel it comes up to the connector in the photo which is easier.

Managed to check with a multimeter and found all good to glow plugs.
Locked and it up and I as went to walk away, checked all the doors were locked. Driver's door not locked but everything else was. Stripped the door card off to lubricate the door lock actuator and check the wiring. Found the plastic holder for the lock button was cracked and the door button couldn't lock the door. Temporary repair with some epoxy a squirt of oil into the mechanism and back together. Went to start it this morning and it started first time. It's much colder here today than previous days when it didn't start. Fingers crossed for a repeat tomorrow but thinking it might have been an immobiliser issue related to the door lock Craig. “Don't believe everything you read on the internet.” ― Abraham Lincoln www.scotgrc.co.uk |

Good you can say the power is getting to the glow plugs.
I have not had any more problem, could be I have a glow plug which needs changed. I had a door lock problem myself last summer. It was the solenoid was jammed but cleared with WD40. |
