I have the judder myself (td5 with DMF) when releasing the clutch from a standstill to get going - so this thread is useful information for me.
I had the clutch replaced around 4 years ago, and have done less than 10k miles since so it should still be in good condition - but the garage did not replace the DMF, so whereas I thought it might be a bit of oil on the clutch, it sounds from this thread more like its the DMF. My question is - what are the consequences of not changing the DMF? The judder is not a big issue at the moment for me, and given temperature was referenced above where yes indeed now that I think about it - I only really notice it when the engine is cold and I'm pulling away from a junction at the end of my road I think I can concur that it lessons (or possibly even goes altogether) once things are warmed up. Is the DMF likely to fail totally, leaving me with no drive, or will it just get sloppier and sloppier over time making things less pleasant to drive? At this point in time I don't really want to fork out another grand to have a garage have the car for another week to change it, which is what it took them to change the clutch the last time, and as the garage is currently full of another immobile Land Rover, I don't really want to take a week off work to do it myself either right at the moment. 2005 Td5 90 XS 1989 V8 110 CSW |

Got the car back from the specialist and although the clutch and FW needed replacing, it turns out the car was fitted w a discovery TD5 ECU, which is the reason why it doesn’t really run brilliantly and judders.
Can disco ECU be reprogrammed for defender or does a replacement defender ECU need to be fitted? |

If you have the later NNN type ecu, than it is easy, just reprogram/reflash with diagnostics. With older MSB type, look for another one, or resolder map in ecu for the right one.
Discovery ecu or software in Def means engine temperature indicator working backwards and throttle controll is more like on/off switch. "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "Blufínek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo  |
