Yes - a couple of years back I had my Discovery 5 spare stolen from under the back.
They had used a small (battery) angle grinder & cut through the support cable & bracket. Ended up costly - new bracket, new cable lift system & replacement spare wheel. The Defender wheel is out on full display at the back - would have hoped it would be too obvious someone was taking it - but I guess if they want it they'll take it. Not too sure what other security is out there for a rear mounted spare like ours???? |

It used to be rife on D3/4. Many bought a wheel protector from RLD on the forum. Excellent bit of kit.
I'd be interested in a security solution. It's easy to buy kits to remove 'locking' wheel nuts. |

Every tea leaf has a set of locking wheel nut sockets so they are no longer a deterrent. Add an 18v angle grinder into the equation and I'm afraid it all boils down to bad luck - wrong place, wrong time. Defender 90XS SW

On my classic defender I have one of these https://4wdrive.co.uk/shop/defender-spare-wheel-lock/ perhaps someone makes one for the new defender.
I also left my defender for two weeks at the official airport car park, came back to find the vinyl spare wheel cover had been lifted but seeing the lock was there they must have decided it would have been too noisy to try to get passed the lock and so they moved on. I suspect they just use hand tools in this scenario to avoid attracting attention, so I think having a lock like this one is beneficial and far cheaper than a new wheel and tyre. Several types of these locks shown in this topic https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic40913.html |

If it were me I’d be tempted to get a used wheel and paint it bright pink

That sucks. Sorry to hear that.
Is there room to sneak an airtag behind the centre cap? |
