You don't want to quieten that down, you want to be running the exhaust through the cab to get closer to the noise! |

dgardel - did anyone ever manage this...I prefer this idea to the noisekiller blanket....but only if it works!
Mine's mostly soundproofed now anyway, but if this delivers more benefit, I would be keen to ket one ordered & installed. Does anyone know the Part # and price? Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |

dgardel (or anyone else who made this work),
I'd be very interested in what mods you made to the 2.2L cover & sound proofing materials. I bought the 2.2L cover and made an initial effort at trimming but the fit is still not good. 3 areas that need modification: The plastic cover, the underlying sound proofing material, and something to secure the rear of the cover to the engine (no rubber "arm" like on the back of the 2.4L cover). In my initial fitment, it was hard to tell whether the obstructions were from the plastic cover or sound proofing material, or both…it was both. - So I separated the sound proofing material from the cover (figured I could glue it back if needed), then put only the plastic cover on the engine and trimmed it to clear the various bits. There were probably 8 places that needed trimming for various lines, wiring, and the 2.4L beer holder. This was slightly tedious trial and error but fits fairly well. I may need to slightly relocate an electrical connection (or cut the cover) in the rear of the engine so it does not rub against the cover. - With the cover piece done, I placed the bare sound proofing material on the engine, wedged various bits between fuel lines, and started to trim areas that keep it from fitting flush on the engine. Though it seems like there won't be much left of it by the time I'm done. The fuel lines and injectors do not line up well at all. If I could find a similar sound proofing material in bulk, I would just start from scratch and cut to fit. - I've haven't yet decided how to secure the rear portion of the cover...possibly just drill a hole and cable tie it. Without more mods to the sound proofing material, the rear portion of the cover will not sit flush with the engine. ....or maybe I should just buy a NK blanket and stop fiddling with it. Any advice is appreciated. Cheers Last edited by jwb on 6th Jan 2014 2:56pm. Edited 1 time in total |

I 'PM'd' Dgardel about this beginning of December and he hadn't got round to fitting it then.

Reading jwb's experience above, no wonder Daniele has not even started the job yet. Probably smart of him. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

would be an interesting quirk to get it fitted, but don't see it making a blind bit of difference to cabin noise.
to isolate the cabin effectively it needs about 2 layers of dynamat everywhere Cheers, David Land Rovers of all shapes S3 onwards… Daily is a 110 V8. |

K9F, thanks very much for the info! I'm not expecting magical results, but would like to tone down some of the 2.4 injector noise at the source without using a full up NK blanket. No worries if it doesn't work out. |
