Having said that, the Land Rover bug bit around age 7, so I had to endure a fair few years with the hobby and without the vehicle! I had wondered where all these stacks of Land Rover magazines had come from - but that kind of explains it.

Yeah, so true... so true...
But do you think now you actually have your Land Rover, it makes you any less of a weirdo? Laughing

I resemble that remark and don't really care if it makes me a weirdo Laughing

Mind you, it seems positively ordinary compared to this hobby...

Defenders are definitely superb camping partners.
The "boot" floor is just the right height to cook stuff on (heavy duty rubber mat essential!), they are ideal for shelter if it gets a bit rough and they go anywhere.

Did our first bit of camping with our little girl a couple of months ago - she's now 8 months old and we also have a 3 year old and a black lab. Didn't sleep a lot but had two very fun nights. Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion.

In the cold light of day you could argue that I don't need one for work or 50+ weeks of the year................. Crying or Very sad

But I have 2 LR's because I can, a euro-box has no soul and I don't want a steroid pumped exec car/est. Thumbs Up BM52

Ours gets a lot of use as a recreation support wagon - we do lots of fun things and the wagon being a dormobile lets us do it in a bit of comfort ... like providing cups of co-co after paddling & peddling Cool

Canoeing (and Kayaking) - our racing boats are 22' long and get carried off to various rivers and canals
Surfing - well we do live in Cornwall! Embarassed
Cycling - often off to do the trails and by-ways all over the country
Photography - my partner is a pro photographer - so we drag her humongous camera bag and tripods to interesting places for the odd sunset/rise shots... Whistle

But most importantly - we use the defender for Traveling and camping ! (just come back from a trip touring round scandinavia) Thumbs Up Poppy - TDCI (Puma) 110XS 2.2 - Camper conversion - see the build here - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic56530.html

Caravanning !

But even just popping out for fags is fun too. I feel like a 'born again' motorist everytime I turn the key !

Bought my 300tdi purely to cart the dogs around in, as when they were wet they were ruining the Mondeo I had at the time.

Since buying it Ive got into caravanning, so now I need it for towing. But even without the dogs or caravan I still wouldnt be without it now.

If I didn't have the Defender I'd have something boring and unoriginal. So much more freedom and versatility than the Fiesta I used to have. I'm probably considered a massive anorak when it comes to Land Rover's, but I love them and love working on them. And at my age, its probably kept me out of a lot of trouble.

Besides, Its a Land Rover thing, even I don't understand! Thumbs Up Ben
