Fuel gauge accuracy….. or not.
I’m still getting to know my 130 and as part of that I’ve been running the tank as low on fuel as I dare to see how smoothly and linear the needle moves, when the light comes on and then how much fuel goes in to fill back up.

The light came on halfway through the Amber segment on the gauge which is 1/8 of fuel left.

Couple of questions

Is this normal? Is that where it’s supposed to come on?

Is the light independent of the gauge or triggered by the gauge?

When I filled back up I put in 65litres which is a bit strange considering everything I’ve read says a 2000MY 130 should have a 93 litre tank so 65 litres suggests either the gauge is not accurate in any way or I don’t have a 93 litre tank.

What is the collective wisdom surrounding the accuracy of Defender fuel gauges? Part of me thinks I may already know the answer to this.

How low have people run the gauges on their defenders, did I bottle it way too early?

I reckon on my 110 when light comes on I have 45-50 miles left in the tank so 9-13 L.
Thought tank capacity was around the 80-85 L on 110, should be the same on a 130.

Def not linear, If I brim the tank, I get around 100 miles till it drops to the topmost mark on the gauge. Another 100 miles till the 1/2 full mark and about 150 miles till it runs out. This pulling a loaded 3.5t trailer most of the time and 1/2 ton of gear in the back of the Hicap.

3 Defenders and they have all been different on the gauge. Current one does 100m off the gauge, then starts to read on the gauge with about 100 miles per half gauge. I just fill up at 300 miles. I’ve run out once in this one as it doesn’t last long in low section.
