Already had a failed update. The apple servers must be rammed with traffic right now!
Just on with my second attempt now. |

I started trying to update at 1800, but keep getting 'unknown error occurred (3200)' after it extracts the software.

I'm all done, just re-installing apps....
The cloud shizzle is very good. Just keep spamming the upgrade, the servers must be very busy. Try putting the phone into DFU mode first as you can skip the backup then. Pom |

I had a feeling this update was going to be insanely popular. I'm glad I didn't try and do my pad tonight!

Just very slightly off topic, but apple flavored - I'm getting my first smartphone some time soonish (4S), and am looking into car chargers/holders, GPS etc.
Is the general consensus from you guys to go for the Brodit mounts? If so, the upper or lower mounts? I'm thinking maybe upper as lower might be too low..? And what (road) GPS app would you recommend, if any? I currently have a 6 yr old Garmin, with 6 year old maps on, and am wondering whether to replace it with a new stand-alone, or something like the TomTom app... it would be nice to only have to carry the one gadget. |

All done and up and running again. Would not say it was trouble free but got there in the end. Restoring music and contacts took a few attempts. Took about an hour and a half all up. Now doing my second one !
A little tip: all content in the email folders is wiped in the process. Make sure you have anything you need stored elsewhere before upgrading. |

Hiya,
Well others may diasgree, but... I use the Brodit bracket (upper, vent mounted one) and, apart from obscuring the vent slightly, works brilliantly. The height is perfect for being able to see music tracks, and also for the sat nav. I would also advise going for the iphone 'adjustable width' holder, as this will enable you to use it with an iphone case. Regarding satnav apps, I have tried quite a few (NavMii, Garmin etc.) and have to say (IMHO) that the TomTom app works the best for me. It's not perfect (none are!), but getting better with each release, and the HD Traffic subscription has been a lifesaver, rerouting me around some of the worst traffic jams. It's not cheap, but it's still a hell of a lot cheaper than a standalone one, and (again IMHO), works just as well! Remember to quit the app, though, once you've finished using it, as it eats battery like you wouldn't believe, when not plugged in! An app that I wouldn't be without is Spotify! I can find and select as long a playlist of music tracks as I want, without buying them, synchronise the list with the iPhone, select 'download for offline use' (when on a wifi network, of course), then listen to it as often as I want in the car. I haven't bought an iTunes sing for ages!

Thanks very much, James.
The only part of the phone I have so far is a nice rubbery case! So yes, if there is a Brodit that will take the phone in it's case, that would be great. (I'd only go and drop it when I'm taking it in & out a case anyway!). I'll go for the upper vent mount too then. I was leaning towards the TomTom app, but it's funny - it gets both the best, and the worst reviews in the app store! How are you supposed to interpret that?? If you reckon it's worth a try, for £50 I'm happy to give it a go for a few months. Seems a shame to have the ability in the phone, and not take advantage... So far as other apps go - maybe we should have a D2 forum top ten (Android, iOS, Windows)! I have a few games on my iTouch (which sadly got broken a year ago) that I'm looking forward to playing again, but having the iPhone will open up all sorts of other uses for on the road. Spotify sounds like an excellent idea. I'd like to get some sort of OBD app (like Rev) too, for mpg, fault codes etc. Just got a text from my NP saying delivery tomorrow - I feel like a kid on xmas eve - might not sleep tonight! |

No problem.
Well, the TomTom app works well for me, and on my wife's iphone, so maybe I'm just lucky... The Brodit holder you want is this one: http://www.mountonus.com/Apple-IPhone-4/Br...25760.aspx Oh, and one other app I use all the time is TouchBB - Makes it easy to use Defender2.net on the iPhone! By the way, sure I mentioned this before - maybe we should have a 'Cotswolds Defender2 meetup! There's a fair few of us round here (FarmerGiles, Ickle etc. etc.)... . 2010 110 XS USW (the slow one) 1960 Alfa Romeo Giulietta SZ (the fast one) 2005 Ducati ST3 1954 Sunbeam S8 |
