Sticky turbo vanes or actuator, on mine the actuator sticking caused such behaviour.
Though does put on a DTC but not always. Effectively causes limp mode. VCV going usually fuses stalking at low speed, rough cold idle and reduced top end power I.E. in 6th. EGR can cause some strange issues, as can the clutch switch though the latter usually is gear change associated. No Guts, No Glory. 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

Egr gone
Clutch switch bypassed and still does it. Turbo was initial thought but it is boosting and boost pressure bchanges as expected. Actuator is free moving no resistance. Fault occurs at intermittent times on boost, off boost too. Idle is erratic if cycle ignition as fault occurring. Ie fueling is not correct at that moment. Also gives no throttle response when fault occurring as in although throttle position read out shows input is applied there is no corresponding change in actually fueling from what I can see. Vanes is on agenda to look at. Cheers James 110 2012 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |

Maybe your VCV has failed earlier than you’d wish for? It does sound very VCVy. If that’s a word? Identical problems to mine before my swap. The fact they’re known to fail frequently, clearly makes them fallible. And therefore no reason why one should last 50,000k as much as 5,000k…. Monsieur Le Grenadier

Check the turbo hose hasn’t been rubbing on the steering column too, a common one but not easy to notice. No Guts, No Glory.

Hoses are good externally.
Other thoughts I had were pressuring fuel tank, maybe pressure relief valve being faulty? Cheers James 110 2012 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |

The annoying part it seems about the VCV’s is some may last years, my last one was about 12yrs old!
Others seem to not last a few years. But equally, are we ending up with unknown contaminated fuel with water in? I know for a fact that when mine gave up the ghost it was just after I used an independent fuel station that I’ve never used before. I’m damn sure there was water in the fuel, it was too coincidental. No Guts, No Glory. 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

Water in the fuel will kill a VCV in seconds.

This is exactly what I experienced and had recently changed the VCV .
After a lot of wasted time and money, I eventually exchanged the VCV and the problems vanished. Both were from PF Jones https://www.instagram.com/hustynminepark/ |

PF Jones was where I got my replacement from too, no programming needed and been right as rain ever since.
It was surprising what power came back too! But yes, I think water in fuel is what does it. Even a little, and the coincidence of the fuel station and it happening within a day or two… No Guts, No Glory. 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

That sounds promising. So your first replacement vcv gave up soon after fitting and another then fitted solved it? Cheers James 110 2012 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |

Recently had similar sounding symptoms and spend nearly a grand replacing all sorts. My VCV was less than a year old so I assumed it could not be that.
In the end I replaced the VCV again and normal running was restored > 110 XS Double Cab |

Hi JST
Yes it was probably in for 6 months or so. I also changed the fuel filter at the same time as that seemed logical. The symptoms have gone but now I have another gremlin where my puma has started cutting out when idling . Then sounds a little rough on restart for a second or two. I’m not sure if it’s related . Anyhow the VCV swap eliminated the intermittent lack of power and lack of throttle response https://www.instagram.com/hustynminepark/ |
