Hi,
While my engine is at the machine shop, i need to take care of some rusty parts. Amongst others the rear left and right cappings as they are gone in the corners. I was thinking of using rust converter and passivisers and repaint but on the other hand i'm not sure if it'll be back at some pint in tie. So i ordered the galvanized replacement parts from LRparts.net. Did someone already do the deeds themselves to replace the crusty parts? I wonder if I need to take off the whole roof for this ordeal or if I can angle it up a to have enough clearance to get the rear pannels out and replace the cappings... update (i refer to this piece): https://www.lrparts.net/lr019162galv-defen...-2016.html Thanks Doruk Td5 110 Station Last edited by doruk1981 on 3rd Jan 2023 11:03am. I think the OP is referring to the vertical finishers.
They are easy to slide downwards without any extra dismantling. I had the same dilemma, and had ordered new finishers, but found that the rivet holes did not align. So I repaired the originals, and sent those for hot dip galvanizing. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

Since there is an edit with the part that the OP wants to replace, then ignore my previous comment.
I have always replaced cappings with the roof and sides off (on 90s however). Note that the cappings are also glued (double sided tape) to the tub, and sometimes there is still a very good bond. Gentle heating can soften the glue. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

thanks for the pointer - my corners are really badly gone and i saw also rust having worked itself further to the front.
I'll release the windshield latches that i can tilt the wholt assembly a bit upwards and then i should get enough clearance to do the deeds ... also, can someone brielfy share if the below item is the seal that goes below the rear sidepannels and then insulates to the cappings? or is this the foam seal that goes under the capping? I read up the LRworkshops diagrams but somehow i'm not sure as the videos i've seen on youtube rarely did the foam replacements https://yrmit.co.uk/product/side-panel-to-...r-110-csw/ https://www.lrworkshop.com/diagrams/land-r...pper_52731 Td5 110 Station |
