Security & A Few More Questions Please
I've recently bought a Spectre style 2010 110 pickup and am concerned about security... Could anyone in the know either chip in on here or PM me with any ideots guide to securing my new purchase... What I mean is, securing the standard features that leave the car vulnerable? My work van has armaplates fitted where thieves know they are vulnerable...

It comes with a two-butto factory remote control, no CL or EW... Hoping to sort CL by buying a kit from a member on here Bow down Thumbs Up

I run my own Range Rover improvements garage and am a keen and active member over on FFRR so have lots of diagnostic kit including workshop IID, meaning I can change any CCF files in respect of security etc etc... BUT, because we only ever touch Range Rovers I am quite clueless when it comes to security knowledge on Defenders... Embarassed

Any help and pointers you can bombard me with would be much appreciated...

Hi Craig,

Nice to see you on here. We spoke a few times back when I had my Range Rover and was active on FFRR.

Sounds like you've bought a nice Defender, look forward to seeing some pictures.

In terms of security, people tend to be a bit cagey as to their layers of security. There are quite a few threads on here, but there are a few 'obvious' things to do to improve the standard design, and seeing as they are all widely available parts, are not really 'secrets' !:

Relocate the Battery Backup Alarm Siren. Simple job, and there are a few suppliers who sell a custom loom.
Reroute (to inside the car) the large power cable that runs between the 2 seat boxes.
    Relocate the ODBC port
Consider security fixings on your door hinges.
Increase security around the Bonnet release - there is a plate you can add at the slam panel, and there are better options for the wing top vent to make it harder to get to the cable.

Hope they get you started Smile

Jon

A tracker of some sort is a good idea.

There's a little mod you can do to Apple AirTags to remove the beep then hide a few inside the Defender.

You can also add an immobiliser circuit of your own. There are various options depending on model year.

The Optimil removable steering wheel and cover are good physical deterrent and quite easy to use day to day.

A layer approach is best, don't just rely on one method.

We decided not to take her to the UK for our holiday next year. Crying or Very sad
Seemed the safest and most relaxing option Crying or Very sad

Whilst I've no doubt that it's distressing if it happens to you, it's worth keeping a little perspective here: every day there are thousands upon thousands of Defenders that don't get stolen.

Cam-Tech-Craig, in the first post of my build thread here, there are links to some of the more obvious security measures that I've taken for mine: https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic60413.html Darren

Sorry to bring an old thread back up but I decided to upgrade the seats in the 110 this week as the originals were a little lacklustre! So I looked on Facebook marketplace and found some Vauxhall Corsa VXR seats…
