The windscreen company will either be able to recalibrate it, or of not then a dealer can do it. These systems are very common now so places are used to doing them.
I had my screen replaced by Autoglass at 4,000 miles and they did it no bother, including calibration. I had them use a genuine screen as the car was only a few months old at the time. |

l ordered the solar reflective windscreen as this is supposed to be less prone to the cracking issue, but this option now seems to have disappeared from the online configurator.

Update -
Sort of booked in now - I say sort of as I have to wait till the windscreen is availble. Hopefully that will be in the next couple of weeks. Will have to be fitted at a 'fitting' center - as yes the camera system will need to be re-calibrated. Did a little more research in to this - yes a millimetre of error at the winscreen will equal a far bigger error 100 to 200 meters up the road. Hope the windscreen stays on the current leadtime as with the colder weather now everytime i put the heater the cracks in the screen grow - they are now over 12 inches long!! |

Done - fitted -
Turned up at the fitting garage. Replacement screen was ready on a stand. Was told it would take approx 2 hours - depending on the glue/resin to cure & the 'calibration' Went back in under 2 hours - all done fitted, cured & calibrated. Have driven it home - lane depatured worked (as normal/before), spped limit signs were recognoised as before. Will check the headlight assist tomorrow morning. Only thing I was 'dissapointed' with was its not a genuine LR windscreen. I asked why not - as my appointment was delayed to get the like for like replacement but the fuitting guys said they get that alot. People are told they will get an OEM replacement - then when they turn up its a non OEM windscreen. With the 2 big (over 14 inch long) cracks I had - i needed to hget it repalced. Was amazed how thin the screen is - didn't measure it but i don't think it was over 2mm |

One positive.
Maybe the OEM windscreen will be less prone to cracking in the future. l've read of a few where the screen has cracked. l remember this happened years ago when the Ford Sierra first came out...if you parked with one front wheel on a curb the screen could fracture! l doubt this is the reason for the Defender screens failing, maybe it's because the glass is so thin. |
