Where do I place a French Toll Tag
Where do people place a French Toll Tag on a Def 110?

the instructions say to place it on the mess behind the rear view mirror if you have a heated and sun repellent windscreen.

there is no mesh on mine, its filled with camera's etc.

do I place it below this ?

Never used a Tag before and dont want to get stuck in a Tag lane with it not working when we go over in August. Embarassed

I just put it on the passenger side of the rear view mirror mounting and it worked fine.

Thanks for the reply.

My challenge there ( which I should have mentioned) is that LR placed my Dash Cam on the passenger side of the RVM.
so not sure if it would work to the left of this as never used one before

I guess my only option is to place it below the cameras in the centre and hope it doesnt interfere with my vision. Defender D250 HSE

I’ve always fixed them to the top, centre of the front windscreen.

If you don’t want the tag stuck to the glass, you can always hold it up when passing through the toll. Charlie

I put mine just on the drivers side of the mirror at the top of the screen. Worked fine, although I did sometimes have to get quite close to the gate for it to be picked up. The 30kph lanes worked better as I think they have stronger transmitters.

Worst case scenario as above if a gate does not pick it up you can just unclip it and wave it out the window.

I’ve been following one of the Gumball3000 contestants who took 6 cars (a different super car for each day……) and he just held the same tag up to the windscreen in each car instead of buying a separate tag for each car and sticking them to the windscreen so I supposed you could do it that way and hold the tag out of the open driver side window if the heater elements and UV protection are a problem. Plenty of L663 Defenders in the 104 cars taking part and the organisers crew transporters and media teams cars were all Defenders. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

the one I have coming is not tied to a registration, just to my bank account Smile

I will see how big it is when it arrives in a couple of days time.

but may well leave it on the dash and just hold it up so that I dont have a mess on the windshield. Defender D250 HSE

Thanks Moo.

I have my Dash Cam there so was thinking of placing it a bit further towards the passenger sun visor or as suggested on a previous reply on the drivers side.

I think to be safe I may well hold it up to the window for the first time and see if it picks it up as I dont want to stick it on and then find its not being picked up.

Where is that picture taken ?

Nice. I bought my first yonks ago for our trips to our French home near Salingnac in the Dordogne. I used to drive through the night from Bath so it was useful with my wife comatose in the front. 😂 Eiger Grey MY23 D250 SE with bits. Known as Noddy.

It is beautiful down there. We're looking to buy again. We regret selling our home but we got bad advice post Brexit. We have looked at Golden passports by investing in Portugal, but we like France and feel at home there. We'll go for residency and possibly look at Citizenship, but we'll see. Eiger Grey MY23 D250 SE with bits. Known as Noddy.

Placed my tag on rhs of the rear view mirror. I have the heated/solar/HUD screen and the tag worked fine. Unlike some other cars, the heating elements cover the whole area of glass, there is no unheated area next to the mirror so the tag is ‘behind’ the elements but this made no difference. I can’t see that it matters where you put the tag on the screen regarding the readers at the tolls given the huge range of vehicles that will work with it.

It'll work pretty much wherever you stick it.

And "30kph lanes worked better as I think they have stronger transmitters"... most definitely. The others are geared up for people having to stop to take a ticket or faff about with change. Although they're all contactless now, so even flashing your UK debit/credit card gets you through quickly and painlessly.
