I was quoted £1,300 - so yours seems (even more) excessive.

It’s booked in week after next. Not really got a choice about doing services or not, if you value your warranty.

There seem to be a lot of extras in your list.
Things like Premium engine treatment, fuel system treatment and A/C door treatment plus others, are not presumably LR service items.
Might be worth checking your handbook for the age/milage service requirements.
In the Uk Dealers often try to upsell these add ons and add to their profits.

It must be awful to be dependent on a garage for your maintenance. All that hassle and time and money. The warranty scam is to me another good reason not to buy a new car.. Car dealer: your local friendly drug dealer pushing their wares.

I owned a lot of cars (in a lot of different countries) and I have not set foot in a garage for at least 25 years (apart from MOTs of course - just the MOT).

Last time I did (Houston - Jeep) I declined a $4500 ABS repair quote and instead installed an $11 ABS sensor which fixed the entire problem. I had to use the garage to scan for faults and give me the results ($250!) but with the codes it was pretty clear what caused the problem a but their solution was to change the whole system (parts cannon approach).

One massive consumer scam. Get your own tools and a good source for parts/consumables. I know it is not for everyone, like cooking your own food is apparently also not for everyone.. you know all those pots and pans - what a hassle that is.

Hi James

I never had an issue with LR warranty claims with new Defenders and RR’s when serviced at Independent LR specialist. You just make sure they use genuine LR parts and recommended lubricants etc.

cheers, Steve

from memory any vat registered garage using OEM parts is fine, they cannot void the warranty for that. Whites, MPP, Engine 710 etc can all service them and you can keep the warranty.

As above, use a reputable independent garage and use the money saved to take your wife to the Maldives.

I think its only about £500 for the big service on a new Defender at most of these places and about £300 for the smaller one.

Thanks folks. I’m aware you can use independent garages, my point was that doing the services is some way is necessary to maintain warranty, not specifically going to the main dealer.

I choose to use the dealer as for the little extra is saves a whole load of debate if there is an issue, but once it’s out of warranty this year I’ll do it myself.
