2008 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Arles Blue
What Part Is This???
Can anyone identify this part? I'm trying to locate it on LRworkshop but nothing definitive. Thought it was the fuel cooler but that doesn't seem to be it. Could be this other thing in the diagram but it's not labeled at all!

There's wires attached (one broken as you can see) and I'm getting the check engine light (which to be fair comes and goes every so often) but I'm starting to think it might be connected.

Appreciate any insights.

The part that you circled on the LRWorkshop screenshot is the fuel cooler which does not have any wires, and has 4 hoses going to it (2 coolant and 2 fuel).

The thingy that you show dangling about could be either a solenoid valve (to stop fuel) or a fuel pump. I would however think that it is the latter, probably installed to cover up another issue. On the 2.4, there is no pump in fuel tank, so the lines are under negative pressure to the low pressure pump. Any leaks will allow air in the system, possibly creating the fault that you see. If you have the 2.2, perhaps the fuel pump in the tank is defective, hence maybe the additional external pump. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Found this, which looks so similar, and would confirm that is a fuel pump.

Spot on!

It really doesn't correspond with anything in the diagrams or manual. Will just clean it up, tack it onto the chassis and reconnect it and hope for the best.

Thing is the car works fine. Can't think of a reason that would be installed in the first place but really not interested in getting forensic on this one as I have some suspension bits to work on. Hopefully all will be well.
