Door seal/gutter - surprise!
After some heavy rain, I opened the driver's door in a carpark, and raised my hand up to the top of the door to guide the door open - to avoid dinging the car parked next to mine..

I was greeted with a surprise of about 250ml of cold water straight down my jacket sleeve!

It seems there's a gutter built into the door seal which runs along the top of the door. I don't know if it's supposed to drain somewhere? But mine seems to collect the water and purge it whenever the door is opened.. down sleeves, across the front of your jumper, wherever you point the edge of the door.

It's kinda funny now I know about it, and I think I can manage the flow.. but I wonder if anyone else has had this little surprise!?

Yes that's a common issue, you'll most likely find that the water is leaking in via the Alpine Window seals and runs along inside the roof.

Then, if you happen to park in a downhill slope or on a road camber etc the water pours in through the top corner of the door on to your leg, or down the inside of the door.

Check your Alpine Window seals

It took me literally years to find that out after fitting new door seals, new bulkhead seals, windscreen seal, and roof seal, to try and stop it.

So you could say l suffered the pain, expense (and wet jeans) so you don't have to.

Oh, and when you fit new Alpine Window seals, make the joint along the top NOT along the bottom of the window.
Then seal the joint properly
Use ONLY genuine LR seals, the alternatives are steaming piles of horse manure. And how do l know that? Yep, another £40 wasted

The OP is talking about a New Defender but it's amusing that they've carried over these sorts of features Laughing Darren

Offending gutter:

It looks like the gutter doesn't catch all water, and instead some water leaks through to the second seal. It's not clear if the water on the inside of the door has leaked past the second seal, or is just remnants from where I've opened the door..

Well, l misread the first post and assumed it was the old Defender

But you can't have a Defender without at least one random water leak. As already said, it's nice to see Land Rover have carried on the tradition with the new one.
