Bathurst 1000.
A bit late to post this, as the race was held over 4 days last week, with the actual race held last Sunday.
For those that didn't see it, it was quite eventful, as there was heavy rain over the mountainous circuit for the 3 days of practice etc from Thursday to Saturday.
Race day Sunday was largely rain free but the preceding wet weather had caused water logged run off /grass areas etc, bringing lots of rubbish on to the track, creating some carnage at times.
But it was a great event, Shane Van Gizbergan (Red Bull 888) Holden eventually won by just .7 of a second from Chaz Mostert (Walkinhaw Andretti United) Holden with Cam Waters(Tickford) a close third and the first Mustang home.
Only a second or so separated the 1st 3 cars after 1000ks & over 6 hrs of racing,...a very exciting finish & the last time Holden will be seen at the Mountain. Mustangs & Camaros next year.

Totally agree with you, been watching this race series for years. It’s on BT Sport here in the UK for those that don’t know and is shown live so worth recording it.

The new cars for next years look amazing and it’s great to see a more pure door handle to door handle racing that isn’t bending over to the latest fad of hybrid tec.

Just balls out racing.

Talking of F1, I watched the Ironman Triathlon from Hawaii (YouTube), 10 hours for the women, 8 for the men and again that was more interesting to watch than F1.

Glad that some of you saw it & enjoyed it, it certainly is, as the saying goes, "The Great Race"!
Supercars would like to get more brands involved, but Aussies love their V8s, & there just aren't many other V8 engine cars about that would engender manufacturer support in this day & age.

V8 Supercars blows the F1 well out of the water!! Love the Howel of those V8s! Plus, the racing is much stronger too. We have just had the British Touring car championship come to an end there, for the year.
Ended at Brands hatch was fierce battle between the three of the lads, for the title. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

we have gone with hybrid this year, instead of success ballast. Like the DRS thing in F1, the race winner and champion ship leader gets less usage throughout the day. It caused a few problems though, two drivers that were in for the champion ship got bitten with the hybrid failures and engine trouble. One driver was leading the champion ship but lost out due to the hybrid and then later engine troubles. The other was leading it until the second from final meeting, where he was also bitten with hybrid problems, putting him from championship leader to practically mathematical chance of winning the title.
I think it's been looked at again, and a few teams are looking at building new cars next year, all were adapted for the hybrid system this year, and no new models have been built, only the odd spare car. One team has stated that their car has come end of life, but that i think that was down to the Infinity production been pulled 5 years ago, in the UK.

I think you are the only country that still has touring car, manufacture backed drives. The rest of the world has switched away from it, which is sad really. The BTCC was very hot back in the 90s for it. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

"Hybrids"? haven't heard any vibes about that in Supercars yet, but as E.V. vehicles become more popular, I guess that it's a distinct possibility.
Yes, we do have "manufacture" support, but it's not really big dollars & not all teams are able to receive it, the majority of sponsorship comes from various commercial sponsorships from team to team.
In years gone by, Manufacturer support was big time, "Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday" etc etc, but it's nowhere near as relevant these days, with the likes of Toyota, Nissan, Kia, Hyundai, Subaru, Audi, etc etc all being major players in the market, but with no interest in supercars.
Two races to go this year, the "rejuvenation" of the last race of the season, Adelaide will be interesting.

the hybrid system thing, can only be used at a certain speed and gear. and there is a blue flashing light that you see when the driver is using it, sort of push the button to pass/ defend. Crap really. The organizer toca has took away a lot of manufacture control now, basically all the cars are the same under neath with common parts, basically if you race a honda civic, and decided to switch to a ford focus, you just unbolt/ cut, the cage and frames etc, and drop that into the new shell. The engines can be a toca unit too, so basically the car you are racing with, just looks like a honda or a ford, but is powered by a reworked vauxhall engine (swindon) good for budget reasons, to a certain point, but a pain in the arse in other ways. They kept the 2lter rule too, which i am surprised at, everything else is 1.6 now.

Its a shame its a dying thing now, My V8/ touring car is better than yours etc, Me and you are paid to thrash it out against each other, for big money. It really was hot stuff, but its gone more sponsor based now. Say me and the lads build a car, you race it, and get few sponsors onboard, and one megger one, that pays for the constructor entry. So basically, instead of a land rover backing and building the car, its all our own doing.

i just hope they leave your regs as it is. EV is coming popular but it will become a one make, who ever makes the batteries. Good old Petrol and diesel is where its at Thumbs Up Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

As an update to this thread, these are the cars that will be used for next year's season.

The Chevy is a 3.7 and the Ford a 3.4l engine.

And they do look good.

Yes, we do have Gen. 111 next year, but engine size is "5".4 for the Ford, & "5".7 for the Chev!
The current engines are 5L.
Gold Coast is on at the moment, Shane Van Gizbergan won the first race yesterday as well as this year's driver's championship.
Second race on today.
One more event to complete this year's calendar.
Next year's Gen 111 will be interesting with new engines and the Camaro competing for the first time.
