That's a very precise amount...I suppose if you used some circular bar stock where the faces were parted off parallel and the shims drilled it would be OK - assuming the studs are long enough.

I haven't seen shim style wheel spacers for Land Rovers..... what's your thinking behind this?

Shims on mine , been on various vehicles over the years, withoout checking prob 5mm thick cut from alloy sheet. no problems so far, Used with alloys and steels, to reduce tyre rub on full lock whilst maintaining a semblance of steering lock on a 110 for tight space trailer reversing.
I have 35mm spacers as well but do not like them too much mud throw without increasing wheel arch width. |

I wouldn't have thought that a 5mm shim would make that much difference to steering lock..... Interesting, i might well experiment.

I needed 6mm shims on the front hubs when I wanted to fit alloys on my 10 spline axle.
Used the front face of an old brake drum, parted on a lathe. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

First thanks for the input.
Currently trying a new setup with 2.5 Fox shocks and getting slight rubbing with my 255/85R16 on Sawtooths. I don't want to widen the track much more due to scrub radius and tyres hitting the body at full flex. Just fitted new KM3's and even consider having the internal side lugs shaved by a shop but hoped shimming would fix. Seems thread engagement on alloy wheels is longer than on steel wheels/ nuts, which should take care of the wheel stud length issue. For now, I fixed the issue with adjusted steering lock, m Click image to enlarge |
