I previously had my grille swapped out due to corrosion on the intercooler grille which is another inferior part that rots out. Now out of warranty and the grille looking as sad as ever I decided it was time to sort it!
I am fortunate enough being in the environment I am to have access to many talented engineers and fabricators so I deriveted the grille and took it into work. Various options were discussed and unfortunately laser cutting and/or water jet was not an option as too time consuming on the machine at too great a cost and was therefore prohibitive. So using the original as a template a new frame/surround was cut from stainless steel and a suitable mesh also of the same thickness stainless was welded into the frame. Happy with the result and at minimal cost! Old aluminium grille... Click image to enlarge Close up of old grille... Click image to enlarge New stainless replacement... The fact that the original grilles always corrode is abysmal but looks like you've sorted a neat solution like the welding BTW Steve.

Not going to bother at the moment, gave it a bit of a polish, 3mm stainless should be ok, will see how it fairs through the Winter!
In total it is an hour or so work to knock them up....I just phoned him and he said "Ballpark we would be talking £35 - £45 maximum" excluding postage. If there are any takers sign up and i'll speak to the guy who made it with the numbers and get back with a definitive cost. Just finished fitting...Excuse picture quality taken with Cr4pberry!!!! I would think the frame would be exactly the same. My holes have gone from OEM oval to round now so what you have at the moment with the mesh would change anyway dependant on material used. Water jet costing for the machine is approximately £120 per hour! Too much for me and couldn't justify the cost! A single item would have taken that hour plus more besides. Ok LRA and Bob, I'll get further information on Monday and post up the cost on here. If still interested I'll give him the number he needs to make and await manufacture. Once completed I'll 'pm' everyone with my Paypal account details and request addresses and post as soon as payment received if that's ok with everyone!

I don't think it is, in fact I don't think it even has a frame. I had a feel round the back of the grille and it's just a bunch of mesh clipped on the back by the edges. There are certainly no rivets. Pete |
