Legal LED reverse light bulbs
Various to fit 2008 on ebay listed http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_trksid=p...;_from=R40

Which is best for my Puma, staying legal. Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. Made for the needy, not the greedy. Ta ta Defender

I'm pretty sure that there isn't a legal option. The light unit E marking will be specifically for a filament bulb.

Having said that, the chances of ever being called on it are slim to none.

I've got the Cree one fitted and it's very good. Darren

I've got an LED in mine the same pretty much as the one at the very top of that link. I wouldn't have another it works but output is rubbish. Not sure what the others are like?
I would rather use the filament standard bulb but for some reason it won't work where as the LED will. Banging Head Thud Banging Head ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️

Reverse lights are not a legal requirement in the UK.

Yes, reversing lights are optional, however if fitted to a post April 86 vehicle they have to be type approved, I.e. E marked these days. Limited to a max of two and no requirement on wattage.

I'd like to know as FG mentions above. A recommendation of a good Cree bulb would be useful. Mr. Green ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️

It's a 5w one, from memory. Haven't got the details to hand though. ISTR that I posted up comparison pictures when I fitted it but can't find the thread now. I lost a 'My Defender' thread when the forum had a hiccup last year and it may have been in there Rolling Eyes Darren

Just found the pictures on my Photobucket account Smile This was my completely non-scientific 'garage door test, back when I had a white garage door.

Before with the standard bulb:

After, with the LED bulb:

Essentially, the LED is brighter but more directional, which seems to be a common trait for many LED lights. Darren

I have an LED reversing bulb mainly because I live down a very dark lane with no street lights and the LED makes an overall huge difference.

Also - if you do need to reverse on a road I am told it is much more noticeable for on-coming traffic Thumbs Up BM52

I think you're stuck down the "for show or off road use only" route.
Unless you go for the complete unit replacements that have been certified.

Suspect the likes of Osram will launch some certified bulbs in the coming year or two but I don't see anything at the moment.

The replacement units are the best bet by far.
I have a pair of Le Perei NAS type reverse lights on my 90 and they are excellent, there is no comparrison with filament or LED replacement bulbs as they are laid out over a much larger area and all point towards the rear. ONE LIFE, GET IT!

Interesting you say that. I have one original Le Perei SVX reverse lamp on my truck, and even if all its white LEDs work perfectly, well, I find the light output utterly useless, very very disappointing. The Le Perei SVX style rear fog LED lamp output on the other side of the truck is actually much better (stronger, albeit red of course) than the reverse light. All what I am talking about here is original SVX fitting. Wonder if others with those lamps (including SVX, ICE, RAW, etc. drivers) have similar experience and impression.

The SVX seems the obvious solution, not?
I have had a reverse lamp from BoltOnBits. It is E-marked and looks like it was a standard lamp.
Dont know whether its any brighter. If thats necessary a additional lamp attached to the roof will be work.
